Hope for Europe?

Made better?

In what way? There are lots of things that have been improved by introducing US philosophy, methods, culture and techniques. But I like old fashioned architecture.
;)

You are losing your ability to criticize things that are not government approved. Some countries have almost lost it completely. Free speech is the most important right anyone has.

:lamo

:rofl

What utter and total :bs did you fantasize up now. Me not being able to criticize things that are not government approved? LOL LOL LOL goodness gracious me, you do say the most insane things that are based on absolutely effing nothing. Just because I do not agree with the nonsense you post means nothing about my ability to criticize my government.

It is not a fantasy. People are being arrested and fined.

LOL what a brain dead article.. First trying to compare homicide rates in "Europe" over the last 800 years with the US homicide rates over the last 100 in 2 graphs.. talk about wtf?

And then blaming everything conservatives hate... women, blacks, minorities, music, and "left wingers".

Seriously? That is a far right racist site. When the guy says this

then you know what you are dealing with.

Also the whole article is based on a study that you have to pay for to read.. /clap.

And then this..

What? Have not heard of a "mass hooligan confrontation" in a very very long time.

And why is it that they always do "Europe vs US".. Europe is 50+ countries with 50+ different laws. In Ireland abortion is a crime, it is not in the most of the rest Europe. In Denmark, bicycle theft is included in vehicular crime, it is not in others. In Sweden you can get charged with rape for not using a condom, something that is not possible elsewhere. US crime laws are far more the same across the country, than in Europe.

Unless you can examine the statistical material and investigates the difference in what gets registered and what is a crime, then you cant successfully compare most crime statistics.

For example.. US definition of violent crime.

The UKs definition of violent crime

A HUGE difference there. For example, the US only records in its violent crime statistics force able rape, where as the UK records all sexual offences.

While you are right to warn of accepting or comparing data directly, usually the general trends are useful. It's sort of like with large scaled maps.

But the most revealing thing is how little interest you seem to have in understanding the dynamics involved and require long data rows before short ones become useful.

You mean people were caught hate mongering? That is not criticizing the government but being uncivilized asswipes.

The government should not be deciding what hate is, that should left to the individual.

That is your opinion, not my opinion. There are comments that can be viewed as illegal, racism for example, hatemongering, calls for violence, etc. etc. etc.

And it is a court to decide what is and is not illegal but it is not down to every individual to decide what is and is not legal to say.

The court is part of the government last time I checked.

That is where you are wrong, the court is independent, that is the essence of what courts are in democracies.

They are independent to the extent of enforcing the laws issued by the government.

Since the law it enforces are legislated and prosecuted by the government. Next.

Err okay... in Europe the judicial is fully independent of the government.. hence it is not the government. Next.

And the government is the people, so if the people decide something is illegal, than so be it.

I see political appointments are completely independent. Is Europe on another planet?

Eh? You do know the European countries are not the US right? For my own country, judges are not political appointed (think the UK is similar), but are nominated by an independent Judicial Appointments Council, who submit the name to the government, who sends it to the Queen, who then approves it. Judges are a-political and protected from political influence from the government and legislative.

Now how they do it in the rest of Europe, I dunno, but I suspect it is very similar (f.eks the UK is very similar).

What on earth are you talking about with your political appointments?

Where this is more or less similar in all European countries I know (monarchies and Republics of course providing different forms of Heads of State and thus final entities of making the appointments), I fear that providing any such niceties as a form of education is a lost cause in addressing the ignorance displayed here.

It seems more important to me to address the colossal failure of comprehension shown in thinking that the courts (and judges) make the laws. Which can be addressed most economically in the three-worder

They Do Not.

I won't waste my time on the division of executive, legislative and judiciary branches.

You're aware of it anyway and the poster you respond to doesn't respond to education all that much anyway.

And where your question indicates that you'd like to know, more pressing is the question "does he"?

Well for the Netherlands I know he doesn't because unlike the US, we do not have politically appointed judges.

Same down here and I don't know of any EU country that does.

Nice on topic question. You do wonders for a thread.

Check again. You're wrong. Posts #35 and #38 have already addressed just how wrong you are.

Since your ignorance on most of what you spout forth over always becomes the topic, you are indeed correct in your assessment in both parts.

What can I say? Everyone is wrong sometimes. But not the citizens arming themselves.
