UK- Large Rape Gang Operated in West Yorkshire, BBC not Giving much Details

A total of 179 cases of child sexual exploitation (CSE) are being investigated in Keighley and Bradford, West Yorkshire Police has said.

The cases involve 165 suspects and more than 100 victims.

Last year, 12 men were jailed for their part in the abuse of a single victim in Keighley.

Why isn't the BBC releasing more details of who the suspects and victims are. They may be panicking about the fact that the last arrests made for a similar crime, involved 12 Pakistani men gang raping white children:

Can you please tell me where it shows this was covered up.

A police spokesperson said: "West Yorkshire Police and partners have been proactive in their approach to encourage victims to come forward and reassure them that all reports will be taken seriously. "We have developed a far greater understanding of CSE than in the past and this has led to rapid action to prioritise resources to improve the identification and prosecution of perpetrators of this abhorrent crime."

Child victims, especially of sexual abuse, will have automatic legal anonymity. Suspects should receive limited coverage – innocent until proven guilty. Those convicted are all individually identified in the same way as any other convicted criminals are.

The women are the victims. If we cared about our women and girls, we'd do a better job at keeping natural born predators away from them.

They weren’t very effectively covered-up given we know about them. There were certainly examples of individual and systematic failure, including some over-sensitivity dealing with Muslim suspects but that isn’t the same as government officials actively engaging in a cover up. You would need specific evidence to back up such a serious accusation.

Oh no? Rotherham was covered up for 20 years. I'd say that constitutes a pretty successful cover up, when you consider that 1,000 children were raped and held prisoner during that time span.

Yes, that’s the kind of evidence you should have presented in the first place, not least because her presentation of the facts is much more rational and honest that your rhetoric. The main difference is that she actually wanted to help victims and prevent the same kind of things happening again rather than simply play petty political and racial games around it.

FYI, that isn’t a single paedophile ring, it’s the total number of suspects being investigated in relation to all of the CSE cases in that region. There’s a specific quote in the article pointing out that a large number of cases involve a single suspect.

While paedophile rings are a major problem that need better efforts to address, that vast majority of sexual abuse of children is committed by individuals related or known to the victims and there is actually a risk that a singular focus on the extreme cases by the media risks distracting attention away from these equally important victims.

The media aren’t good at covering CSE in general and have been on the back foot with all of the recent controversies, such as cases in children’s homes, private schools, the Catholic Church, the entertainment industry and the very top of British politics. There are ongoing issues in some of those environments yet they’ve been all but forgotten by the media, and thus the general public, in favour of the next big headline. If people don’t start recognising this as the wider, ongoing issue that it is, it will just be forgotten again.
