Corbyn calls for empty homes of the rich to be seized for Grenfell victims

Property rights are human rights.

"Property rights" have always been about the aristocracy maintaining control and subjugation of the unsubstantial people, nothing more. Black folk were property and stolen property rights were the justification for the ethnic cleaning of the americas.

All rights are property rights. Any claim of ownership of another human being ignores that every human being has a property claim in themselves.

Not how it was used is it.

Social housing flats have been bought today by the Govt to house the survivors.

Sixty-eight social housing flats in Kensington, London, are to be made available to survivors of the Grenfell Tower fire, the government has said.
The one, two and three-bedroom flats are located in two blocks that stand alongside a large luxury development, where private homes go for up to £8.5m.

Yeah, Thatcher made the mistake of not replacing housing stock being sold off (I support people's right to buy) and I am disappointed we have allowed social housing building to decline horribly so there is a kind of rough justice in having to buy up these houses for Grenfell survivors. These and other similar homes were (the Conservatives had to admit) not quite what was advertised in the policy of the "constant supply of new homes for social rent.”

Sometimes I despair of my party. (I despair more often of Labour and the Lib Dems though  )

Some locals are protesting the move... comments like "they dont belong here" have been voiced.

You'll hear comment like that everywhere that social housing butts up against private housing. Nothing to be shocked about, no need to pay heed. You'll often hear people talking about social housing lowering property prices in an area. Generally it's not true but if it were, in a borough like Kensington that could only be a good thing.
