(CNN)Along with signs for 'no smoking' or 'no littering,' commuters in Madrid will soon see a new unfamiliar one: No manspreading.

The new sign shows a cartoon man with his legs spread sitting on a metro seat. A giant X signals it as unacceptable behavior.

Manspreading, in case you didn't know, is when men spread their legs with no regard to others' personal space.

"This new icon is similar to those already existing in other transport systems around the world to indicate the barring of body posture that bothers other people," the transit agency said.

So, you may be asking yourself, who the heck has time to concern themselves with how others choose to sit? Well read on;

The agency's decision follows months of campaigning by women's rights groups. Earlier this year, one group, Mujeres en Lucha, started a campaign #MadridSinManspreading (#MadridWithoutManspreading).

Sorry to disturb your uninformed hysteria, but it has nothing to do with how open the legs are, it's about not spreading your legs over multiple seats. Is that a reasonable rule for public transportation? Yes.

Anyone (Male or female) who occupies more than one seat should pay a higher fare or get off.

I didn't even know it was a problem. But if 'manspreading' is a problem on crowded buses and subway trains... then perhaps encouraging men through public education rather than regulating it would be a better way to go.

I think it was Tawain...on their subways, they have two foot prints in front of each seat for where to place your feet and people just seem to put their feet there automatically.

This is local government, and government regulates how people act and wear all the time... so why no this?

No. Public (and private) transport operators can and should direct (and if necessary, regulate) how people use their services to ensure they are as safe, efficient and pleasant for all passengers to use. This doesn’t strike me as different to things like the “no smoking” or “no littering” already mentioned or things like not putting your feet on the seats, not blocking isles with luggage and letting people get off before trying to get on. It’s all common sense to some of us but unfortunately common sense isn’t all that common.

As soon as they regulate obese people from taking up too much area, they can start telling men to close their legs.

Increasingly, people no longer fit in one seat. It is only right to challenge them with higher prices. I like it.

Are you aware of the she-bagging crisis that's going on?

Woman on London Underground, "she-bagging" by taking up the adjacent seat
The criticism and campaigns against manspreading have been counter-criticized for not addressing similar behavior by women, such as taking up adjacent seats with bags, or "she-bagging".

Don't hate the 'spread bro unless you're going to also hate the she-bag.

Got it bro?

I feel like regulating B.O. on public transport should be a bigger issue than how people choose to sit. I can deal with standing on a train because there's no seats, but I'm not down with some of the insane body odors you encounter riding public transit.

Then maybe the sign should show an obese person not fitting in the seat. I would thing someone sitting legs wide would make way for you, if you sit down. That shouldn't really e a problem for anyone not otherwise living in a safe space.

So you're so offended that you demand they have a picture of an obese man, a woman, and every other combination of possible demographics so that nobody feels left out? How about instead we show a genderless stick person (like it does) and you get over your political correctness?

The sign shows a genderless stick person and the taking multiple seats rule applies to everyone. Stop crying because you feel like you're being attacked. Do you need a safe space?

Seems feminist to me to pick on men.

Which would be where all this nonsense originated from, American feminists. In developing countries, women are fighting for the right to vote and not have FGM forced upon them, in the West they're trying to neuter men.

Incorrect PC Principal. The sign shows a man sitting in a position that would be comfortable to men, 'manspreading' as feminists call it.

You haven't addressed the onslaught of she-bagging either. What are you hiding?

Regulate "how men sit". Remember? And I'm not going to look, but wasn't it you that pointed out that it was less the spread legs than the two seats for one person thing that was meant?

Probably the problem is that the designer comes from a culture that just isn't well enough aware of gender studies. ;)

The sign applies to all genders. Here you are crying about a public transportation sign in a country you don't live in that shows a genderless stick figure. Let me guess, they should hang up 500 different signs showing stick figures of all races, genders and religions so that you don't feel attacked? How dare they show a picture of a RED stick figure! It must only apply to red people! They should have white, black and brown stick figures as well with proper genitalia showing this applies to everyone.

What a delicate child you are. Don't worry, the PC safe space you've constructed for yourself will protect you.

That's exactly what I said, it applies to everyone, yet you here you are crying about how the sign doesn't show every demographic and you feel attacked. Society doesn't have to pander to your insecurities, grow a pair and don't be so PC.

When a sign with a stick figure triggers you this badly you need to un-bunch your panties and grow up.

You are right! I hadn't noticed that it picked on a male of red skin. That isn't nice at all!

False, the sign specifies 'man' in the part where it says manspreading is a sin.

This absurdity has inflicted the United States too.

What a wonderful idea. I just so happen to have some Cautionary Signs laying around, these should be implemented at once.

I'm fighting PC nonsense, you're busy falling in line. When you aren't allowed to man spread, and your narrow sitting posture cracks your nuts like a walnut cracker, don't come crying to me.

The Government should not in general have such rules, but if they want to have riding rules that would get you get you kick-off for not following them sure.

As for the image it should be a gender neutral person sitting in such a fashion with either people standing around or people sitting in the seats next to them, otherwise they should be able to sit that way as long as no one else needs a seat.
