Germany- Woman Fined €1300 for Facebook Post

Really, you want to compare a fine to the death penalty :lamo sure, that is total nonsense. Germany has freedom of speech, but if you break the law, you can be prosecuted.

I´m sure North Korea would say the same "there is free speech as long as you only say what you are allowed to"

How is this in any way different from Pakistan? And I'll be the first to admit our 1st amendment has limits. However I wanted to ask...
although the penalty was handed down by a court, not “the government”
Are your German courts a private enterprise or something?

In the increasingly bizarre situation that is Germany's laws concerning free speech, a woman has been fined €1300 ($1500) for a meme that she reposted on Facebook.

Now compare this case with a German court's decision that stated fire-bombing a synagogue is not antisemitism :

While Germany and the UK seem to be dedicated to ushering in Islam's supremacy in Europe, I for one am glad that my president isn't cowardly crumbling at the feet of Mohammed's followers.

Actually he just sold the Whabist Saudis another $110B in arms and continues to supply them with the cluster bombs, known to have a 90% casualty rate in the field, that they rain down Yemen.

This seems to be becoming disturbingly common in a numer of EU countries (despite the Europe Court of Human Rights etc) there was a case in Spain of a lady going to court for joking about the asssasination of one of Franco´s ministers several decades ago. I think as long as someone isn´t actually advocating violence or slandering someone they should be able to say what they want without fear of legal consequences. Same goes for genocide denial etc.

Though I admit that in this case its a tricky one as the women´s comments could be seen as an implicit threat.

How many German female terrorists have there been? None?

People make silly Facebook posts all the time. The real terrorists, like Anis Amri, were known to German authorities, and they botched things so badly that people died. Amri wasn't fined a single Euro, and was actually funded by German taxpayers!

True, very sad. I'm disappointed in him for this.

Neither of the two are mutually exclusive. And like i say I´ve mixed feelings about this case but if I were to say that that I had guns and grenades waiting for Trumps next visit (I don´t!) I would be locked up in hours.

Lastly if you object to Asylum seekers living of tax-payers money then they should be allowed to work.

They did not endorse anti-semitism. One judge and one case is not "Germany". Especially because you will also be prosecuted for antisemtic comments and holocaust denial.

What do you think the effects of 1 million Muslim refugees have been on the Jewish community of Germany?
Legitimate stories exist of Jewish children being forced to leave school due to violence from Muslim students now.

They are allowed to work:

An asylum seeker who made it to Germany may not work during the first three months upon arrival.
And then they only stand a chance if no German or European Union citizen is in the running for the job. This rule is called the priority check, or in German, Vorrangprüfung.
Once the person has been in Germany for 15 months, they don't have to be submitted to this test. But, just like before, the refugee has to get the approval of the municipal immigration office before accepting a job offer.
Generally speaking, the longer an asylum seeker has lived in Germany, the more options he or she has in the area of employment or education. After four years, there are no more restrictions.

The problem with migrants like Amri, is that they don't want to work, and they're using Germany for free money. Amri was registered 8 times with different welfare offices, and collecting 8 different monthly payments. Other migrants do the same thing.

I´m sure North Korea would say the same "there is free speech as long as you only say what you are allowed to"

Except that is not the case in Western democracies (you know, something Germany is).

1. she did not get the death penalty, she has chances to appeal and again, it is not the death penalty that she got.

2. German courts are independent of the Government. The government does not interfere in single court cases (as a rule).

Have you ever been to Pakistan?

No?

Then you must know my friend Juan Luis Gutierrez.

He's never been to Pakistan either.

:rofl

No Chagos, but I've known many Indians and my Muslim friends who said Pakistan is a great big nightmare.

Have you been?

Again, you go from a court case to condemning the entire German people for the judgement of 1 court case. And then if you are said that your claims are just not proven by this one case you start complaining about immigrants in Germany. Make your mind up, we were not talking about horrendous cases of anti-semitism in Germany but that is not "Germany" as a whole (as you made it out) nor does it have anything to do with this court case or Germans in general.

Yeah but as far back as the seventies and eighties. And "been" would be something of an exaggeration in that in both instances the whole venture was nothing more than a two night stop in what was a more extensive Asia business trip.

IOW I didn't get to see much beyond the fact that it seemed relatively stable, no doubt due to having al-Huq's boot on it. Those were the days of channelling Mujaheddin into Absurdistan to fight the Russkies but I saw nothing of that either.

Nevertheless, in order to assess whether it really is a craphole today, I'd have to assess that myself but I'm far more comfortable where I am right now.

Amri was never eligible to apply for work.

Takes nothing from the botch-up that both security and welfare bodies made of his case but asylum he was never granted.

Indeed, but you must admit that saying "you can say what you want, as long as its not something we don´t like" kinda defeats the object.

But it is not what we do not like that gets punished, it is hate speech/inappropriate speech that is punished. Or violent threats to others that is punished.

I can say that Trump is an asswipe all day long for the secret service, if I would threaten him with guns and hand grenades I would quite rightly risk getting in trouble with the secret service/the law.

Sure, but these prohibitions extent far beyond what could be considered hate speach. Genocide denial for example doesn´t threaten anyone, its just not considered politically convinient. Furthermore if someone propogates hateful views i would rather argue against them then ban them.

Nope, but it is one of the worst insults towards Jews and I completely understand that Germany wants to make sure that denying the worst crime the Germans committed upon the Jews is not legally allowed/punished.

Germany, specifically has had a problem with antisemitism, not Facebook memes.

Did you happen to read my OP? I prepared it specially for you.

Yep, they've got a virulently anti Semitic, racist, Neo Nazi(but I'm repeating myself) problem. Mostly in Eastern Germany.
