A homeless man has shared his harrowing account of the moment he rushed to help wounded children after the suspected suicide bomb attack Monday night at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.

Stephen Jones, 35, was sleeping near Manchester Arena when he heard a loud bang, which he initially believed to be fireworks. In an interview with ITV News, he detailed the aftermath of the deadly attack that left at least 22 dead and dozens injured.

When Jones and his friend saw everyone screaming and running, they began to run with the crowd. But when they realized what was happening, they ran back and saw women and children leaving the arena with "blood throughout the stairs" and victims lying on the ground.

He explained that his instincts led him back inside the building.

"There was a lot of homeless people that stayed there and helped and that's what we done. And obviously when we seen children like that with blood... having to pull nails and stuff out of their arms and I pulled one out of this little girl's face," Jones said.

Jones felt like he had no choice but to help the children who were covered in blood, "crying and screaming."

"If I didn't help, I wouldn't be able to live with myself for walking away and leaving kids like that. The ones that helped were great, we don't normally get on with the police, but I'll give them 100 percent they were there on the scene last night and they were there, they knew what they were doing and all the emergency services were there, they were there in quick time," Jones said.

"If I didn't help, I wouldn't be able to live with myself," says homeless man who aided at Manchester

One woman has now started a Go Fund Me page, to try to find housing for Jones. I hope he gets it, and turns his life into something positive. He definitely has the potential.

Thoughts?

It's about time we carry each other as brothers and sisters - God's children - rather than continuously fight over our shares of the pie.

Please flesh out what this so-called help looked like.

Did they have industrial sized first aid kits?

Access to an ambulance?

Healing potions?

You should be better able to camouflage your cynicism.

If you had bothered to read the news about this, you would know. The man is a hero among many that evening.

He has been offered 6 months rent of a house by one of the West Ham United chairmen and his son (or grandson.. cant remember). They used Twitter and Facebook to hunt him down and help him. Yes the 2 guys are multi millionaires (if not billions).

Made me think of this homeless man who gave his life to save a hostage in Brazil.

Graphic.

Moderator's Warning:
Video removed... much too graphic.

Would removing nails/shrapnel even be the appropirate thing to do in this case? Wouldn´t that cause more bleeding?

They tried to help in any way they could, in spite of the danger, that's the point. They're not medical professionals or EMTs.
The point of removing the nails was probably to lessen the pain the children were in.

No no I don´t question that for a minute I just asked for future reference (depressingly enough), and the news about the house is certainly heartening. Thanks for sharing:2wave:

I see, thanks for clarifying. I pray that the UK sees peace after this.

What a complete Dick!

That would be wonderful, but it's not going to happen unfortunately.

I'm very weary of these terror attacks stories Lady M. I used to be full of rage & wanted revenge when a new one occurred, such as the case was with 9/11, 7/7, Paris 2015, now I'm just worn out of hearing about needless bloodshed. It never ends.

Please! You're not some kind of 'all seeing' and 'all knowledgeable ' gifted being. Just a nut job, with poor choices.

He pulled nails out of children's faces...and put compression on their wounds to keep them from bleeding out until an ambulance arrived.

.........and, as the vid clearly states, taking his cue from the professionals.

Who in disaster scenarios like these are glad for any helping hand to bridge the time until they can be present in full strength.

Newer interview with Stephen Jones:

The guy has heart, and is very honest, even admitting that at first he ran from the bombing, then changed his mind when he knew kids were hurting.

I also liked how he didn't get drawn in by the blonde woman's question about why he's homeless. Duh, its totally irrelevant to the story.

I'm pleased for the guy, his personal circumstances will be changed by a human interest story in the media.

Problem is, this will not change the circumstances for all the homeless and destitute people that will not be helped because it doesn't serve the purposes of the media and the rich publicity seekers who got some brownie points from this.

What we actually need is a coherent and proper set of policies and systems to address why people are ****ing homeless in a rich country like ours in the first place!

Stop the illicit drug trade, and you'll end 50-60% of homelessness right there. What do you think of that?

I believe that the drugs used by the homeless are a result of the homelessness, a symptom that maintains the disease for sure but, not a primary cause to start with. If parents have become involved in drugs, been useless with their kids and as a result their kids have ended up on the streets then yes but, that is also not the only reason that people end up homeless.

The war on drugs is a phony war anyway; all it has produced is a cartel for crime. It is an economics problem that governments are trying to solve with moralising and no real regard to the economics! The only way to stop the illicit trade in drugs is to break the cartels so, I support the nationalisation of the illicit drugs industry.
