At least one explosion at a concert given by singer Ariana Grande sent terrified fans running for the exits Monday in Manchester in the United Kingdom, according to Variety and various other media organizations.

The Greater Manchester Police Department reported via Twitter "a number of confirmed fatalities" at the Manchester Arena and "others injured." At least 20 people were dead, NBC News was reporting.

The incident took place at about 10:40 p.m. as the concert in northern England was wrapping up, eye witnesses told local television. Manchester Arena holds 21,000 people, according to its website.

Here's to hoping that this was just some freak accident, and not done intentionally by someone.
Also, I hope that there are no more fatalities.

Thoughts?

This sucks. So many people got injured; hopefully their injuries aren't fatal. R.I.P to the 19 vicitms.

Wow, I'd say were all getting a little jaded to mass murder at this point. There's that great 'progress' I keep hearing so much about.

As my mother lay dying of cancer, she taught me to always try and find humor in the darkest moments.

This is one of those moments.

You don't like it - tough.

I will take my mother's dying wishes over some faceless nobody on a chat forum any day.

You don't like it - don't read it.

And if you don't like it once you read it - tough.

So your reaction to 20 kids being blown up, is to make dumb doughnut jokes? You couldn't even wait a few days for this thing to settle. That's what I'm talking about when I said 'jaded'. Don't throw your mom under the bus now, not gonna work.

No, not jokes...a joke. And yes, it was pretty much the first things I thought of. Hey, I did not know any of them. And why are they worth any more sympathy then anyone else who died today around the world? I am VERY sorry they died. But no more so than anyone else who died today - especially of an accident, act of violence or illness.
They deserve just as much as everyone else who died and it was not their fault. No more - no less.

Quite frankly, if people cared more about ALL people who die and not just those who die in BIG events - the world would be a hell of a lot better off.

Like you do realize there are over 6 million people in Somalia who are starving to death? I don't see you starting a thread about that. But no...they are not as BIG in the news. So they are not worth the energy or your time.

Six million Somalis face starvation | Somalia News | Al Jazeera

And I already threw my Mum's ashes away in the Pacific Ocean...can't throw her under a bus now.

And when I croak, I hope someone will make jokes about it as well. If you cannot laugh - what's the point?

Obviously none to you.

ANYWAY...R.I.P. to those 20 people who died at that concert.

We are done here.

Evil b*****ds. The concert hall is very secure with checks once you get through the foyer otherwise they would have gotten further into the concert where there were thousands.

The foyer is the weakest link and this is where the explosions happened - however there will be a lot of CCTV.

Instead of hiding in their homes, Mancunians went to the city centre to offer lifts to safety for those affected, people brought food and drink for the emergency services. Some people even offering spare beds for those who couldn't get home.

R.I.P to those killed.

Re: Explosions at Ariana Grande concert in U.K.

I just woke up to this news. I'm not going to post much; I'm a bit shocked and speechless tbh. I know the arena and that part of Manchester very well and have been facebooking friends to check on them.

Whoever did this, whatever effed up, psychotic death cult they represent, they will be forgotten and their cause will fail.

****ing sick. Especially since Ariana Grande has a large teen/child fanbase.

Truly sickening.

Been up for a good few hours, the wife is from Manchester and has a very large family. Fortunately they are all safe. Truly senseless act.......

I think that was the point, they're targeting children now. The Stockholm attacker last April aimed his truck for baby carriages, or prams as you might say.

Re: Explosions at Ariana Grande concert in U.K.

I truly hate that these things happen. It's so sad and wrong.:(

I'm very pleased to hear that all your wife's family are safe. All my friends and family in the area are too, apart from one, who I haven't been able to reach: my ex- of many years. I'm hoping it's because he's away. I'd hardly expect him to be at an Ariana Grande (never heard of her before today) concert but that whole area is full of cinemas, bars, restaurants etc.

I'm never sure what terrorist acts targeting entirely civilians are intended to achieve. If it's merely to make us all fearful, they may succeed for a while, but so what? People can live with fear, it doesn't last forever, just as they can live with grief, poverty, illness etc. People are tough. What do the perpetrators believe can result from instilling fear that can possibly benefit them or their cause? Do they think government's will change course? They rarely do. Do they think that public opinion will turn on their leaders and persuade them to give in to terrorist demands? That never happens.

To me these attacks seem like a primal scream of impotence. They cannot make any impact on the macro-political level. They can't change governments and they can't defeat modern armies, so they choose to inflict fear, death and injury at a micro-political level, on some handful or few dozen defenceless individuals, not because they believe it will achieve anything, but because they have nothing else in their armoury. Because they can, and this is all they can. Sad, pathetic losers!

Re: Explosions at Ariana Grande concert in U.K.

For anyone who might be within striking distance of Manchester tonight, I just heard that there will be a vigil for the victims of the bomb attack in Albert Square this evening at 6pm. If you can, why not turn up and show a bit of solidarity in the face of the unspeakable? I wish I could be there.

Good summing up, Andy. The demographics of the following for this particular singer, is predominantly teenagers. For me, this makes it all the more sickening and entirely callous. Those that hold with such an evil vision will never win. They are the antithesis of human development and progress.
