Mr Macron's decision to pluck figures from across the political spectrum has sent the French right into disarray.Mr Le Maire is a conservative moderate, Mr Collomb is the Socialist mayor of Lyon and Mr Bayrou is a veteran centrist.
Some 170 elected officials from the right were earlier criticised by hundreds of other lawmakers after they signed a statement backing Mr Macron.
One accused Mr Macron of "blowing up" the political landscape.

~

After he named Republican Edouard Phillips as prime minister on Monday, more than 170 elected conservatives agreed to sign up to his project, some claiming they were witnessing the "transformation" of politics. Link.

Well, he's certainly going ahead as he said he would, half his cabinet are women and he's chosen a Conservative Republican Prime Minister. Can he pull this off or will he end up with a government which cannot agree anything and grinds France to a halt?

Brave decision in my view, I don't know enough about the man and his persuasive powers but that is what he will need to make France work.

He is an untested unknown making arguments that have been failing for years...but it could happen.

Mandating 50% women is a bad sign however, it indicates that he cares more about rainbows in the pictures than he does about quality work.

It is certainly worth watching. It is a fine experiment. France24 was all excited all day.

Macron has stated that he's willing to live with the threat of terrorism on a daily basis, so no, he won't unify anyone. France's most pressing issue of 2017 is the threat of terrorism, and I predict that Macron will be as disastrous for that issue as Hollande was. It'll be impossible to put faith into such a leader as the inevitable unfolds.

Do you mean where he said terrorism was likely to remain a daily factor in France for years to come? That's not the same thing as you are implying.

Well, he's appointed (better said picked) a cabinet-to-be.

We'll have to await the outcome of the elections next month to see if or how it will fly.

IMO the whole move so far is wise since it's the only conceivable way of keeping his promise of breaking up old structures of stagnation arranged along lines of ideological partisanship.

If his La République en Marche does sufficiently well next month to get his cabinet thru (better said entrenched), I don't see much disagreement among those that have been appointed.

If he needs to form coalitions with other parties (most likely), I do.

There are polls showing his chances for gaining a majority for La République en Marche as not that bad at all, but......well..........polls.

Otherwise he may have to enter a state of cohabitation with whatever party gets the most seats in the Assembly. That wouldn't exactly make things easy.

Really bad sign for sure, he should follow Trumps lead and just grab them by their ******s instead.

Yes, and what other meaning is there to discern besides his surrender?

Yeah, darn wenches in politics make it time to run for the hills.

I mean look at May and Merkel and Maggie in the past. Not to mention Indira and Bandaranaike, the two pistol packin' mommas.

When a person tells me that they are going to pick for very important jobs based upon genetics you can count on me to object.

This is so very stupid.

Donald landed Melania that way?

Well, I'll be dawgawn. :2razz:

Well actually Chagos, Melania is some 20 years younger than Donald Trump, so your comment makes no sense. Macron's wife is some 20+ years his senior, earning her the wife/mommy designation.

For you obviously none.

I don't subscribe to the school of thought that seeks to force subjugation on the indigenous peoples of Europe, so take what you will from my previous comment.

Bah, you ever heard of some being attracted to younger moms?

Okay, let's both quit this before somebody (OP for instance) accuses us of derailment. Cuz he'd be right.;)

Trudeau has very grand rainbow pics, but that has not saved him from getting reamed by the Canadian people for his poor work.

I say get the best people.

That is our only hope.

Opinion noted and thanks for playing.

Kind of goes to show (bolded) that you're not sufficiently knowledgeable on France in its current state to be able to identify what its most pressing problems are.
