Germany Confiscating Homes To Use For Migrants?[W:78]

Im beginning to wonder if the Daily Mail is more popular with racist American right wingers than it is with average Brits.
I suspect that it runs out about even.

If, that is, one inserts "racist" in between the words "average" and "Brits".

As for the average Brit (without further adjectives inserted), apart from not being sure who that is, I've found that most look upon that rag with contempt but seem well informed on what it writes.

So considering how many claim to never read it, something doesn't jive here.:mrgreen:
 
After some absence here still everything the same. People from abroad posting untrue bull**** from doubtful sources to serve their personal agenda...

I guess mail is quite similar to our "Bildzeitung"? - these papers have zero interest in telling any truth, it´s all about making big money and manipulating people...

edit.: btw if there would be any truth in this, what is not, even than the topic would be rubbish - the City of Hamburg is not Germany.

Well, there wasn't even any confiscation going on IMHO, it was forcing a unwilling apartment owner to finally rent out his properties again. That is not only smart when it comes to mitigating the long waiting periods people have for new housing, it is also good for security (non rented out places can attract crime or squatters, gives a general appearance of insecurity when several apartments are being left empty in a house) and good for the other apartment owners in that building because empty apartments all in 1 building can give the impression that it is a bad building to live in and that makes all the house prices for the other owners of apartments/rental agencies drop.

The problem is some UK newspaper writes this, based on a source that only uses one source for their story, because nobody at that UK paper is able to go to German websites and read up on the story to check the validity of their claims. Which means often their story is leading/bogus to begin with.

So basically after WCH admits he didn't read far enough into the story to recognize that he completely misunderstood the situation and got unnecessarily dramatic, he calls the 30 y/o veteran and engineer who's lived in Germany 11 years "young and has no real experience in life". What kind of a lazy and disgusting person goes on the offensive with unrelated insults after he found out he was misled by dishonest clickbait news?

Fair Market Value...is whatever the landlord dictates in order to get him to use the property against his will. If the city didn't offer enough then it wasn't fair market value.

Perhaps you need to be reminded of the story of a United customer being dragged off a plane...

I'm not here to defend eminent domain, haven't yet, just to point out that this isn't even as bad as the eminent domain cases in the US and it's one of the first times it's ever happened here. It's only after the owner refuses to either live in it or rent it to someone that the local government forces him to rent to someone for his profit. I can certainly understand their case for it as we're seeing all over the world in major cities investors buying up real estate and sitting on it to artificially drive up housing costs for their own gain and society's detriment.

It might also be seen as informative that the German Base Law (constitution) holds (article 14, 2) the principle of „Eigentum verpflichtet. Sein Gebrauch soll zugleich dem Wohle der Allgemeinheit dienen.“

That translates roughly as "property obliges (i.e. brings obligations with it). It's use shall also serve the general public good".

Now the "shall" clearly denotes that this is not a law cast in stone that can simply be invoked for the case to be made, yet laws that subsequently follow will clearly invoke this socio-philosophical constitutional principle.

IOW the message denotes that owning something doesn't mean you can do whatever you like with it while ignoring any negative impact your actions can have on the general public and its well-being. Individual interests do not supersede those of the community.

I think we can say with near certainty that he's a 35 y/o townie who still lives with his parents, working a dead-end job and has never left the country. He's had a lot of life experience flexing at people on the internet though.

Not knowing more about him (personally) I'm not going there.

I only piped in on that totally OT excursion to remind that ad-homs as the one expressed get undeserved recognition by being acknowledged thru address.

Experience is a combination of what one has seen and has subsequently (and intelligently) drawn from that.

Age has noting to do with it.

The article is wrong. This is not "the first time residential buildings have been seized in Germany." How soon the alt right either forgets or wants to rewrite history.

That is quite right. Usually there was a recompensation paid albeit usually well below market value. But the article seemed somewhat vague on ownership vs free diposition.

I had also understood it to be "only" a coercive act and not expropriation. Though, one would have to look at the evidence more closely for more exact multipliers, it is safe to say that it will tend to further reduce investment in residential assets.

My bet is the State pays the rent to the landlord when the migrants move in. It's probably just that the landlord has no choice but to take the deal--an offer he can't refuse.

I would say it increases it because if you know that your houses will be temporarily taken over and redesigned in a manner that is according to the wishes of the government rather than you, and rented out to people you may not want as renters. It is much better to renovate yourself and put the tenants in you want rather than let the government decide for you.
