I would add another (perhaps more important) consideration. It is the fact that the UK is looking-in from the outside (and not looking-out from the inside) of the world's largest "international common market" in terms of population - and therefore potential GDP. Yes, somewhere around 444 million vs 325M for the US.
The benefits of a common-market are myriad, and the GB is going to have to find its growth necessary for higher employment-rates elsewhere ...
