I've only followed what he says and he's been saying things for quite some time since long before the weekend.

What he stands for is another matter altogether, seeing he doesn't really have much of a political track record beyond having served as Minister (not elected, of course) for a mere two years under a socialist government.

The main redeeming feature that people appear to see in him is that he's not a fascist. And that he's not of the "same old, same old" either.

I'm not exactly crazy myself over someone being voted for by what he is not, but obviously his not being of the Le Pen ilk also played a role here.

Ironically the "new face/kid on the block" effect is also amusingly Trumpian, even where most of his supporters would indignantly deny the "equivalence".

So what you are saying is you are the equivalence of a Trump voter that would rather see anyone but HRC.

What a world. What a time.

That's not an insult...just an observation.

Temporarily.

It's a meaningless shenanigan but she hopes to fool others into giving her support beyond her base on the spin of "Hey, I'm not FN any longer, I'm Marine".

Meh, you're just an old cynic. She's the saviour of Europe don'tchaknow?

No, what I was saying was what I said.

and pretty much off at that.

To elaborate, comparing France to the US is a pretty fruitless exercise. As is comparing her electorate and her politicos to the US.

I agree you can't compare the two countries. I'm actually grateful for that and I suspect you feel the same. My point is that what you said was that your motivation is not the great policies of Thai rockstar candidate you are excited to vote for but that you are voting against MLP. MLP....HRC. Same difference.

I vote neither in France nor in US.

And the fruitlessness of making cross pond comparisons of political figures, I've already addressed.

As such I'd compare Marine neither with Hillary nor with Trump (or vice versa).

....sigh....

It's obviously not a one for one comparison but rather the explanation of voting for the lesser of two evils.

Millionare child of a millionaire, never held down an actual job in their life? There are similarities, pacts with the neo-nazi devil aside.

No need to go a-sighing buddy, nobody is exempt from others not wanting to play the same game (in this case you football and me soccer:mrgreen:).

I'd agree however that by signs so far (if they're what anyone can go by) the French (and not just they) hold Marine to be the greater evil. She does however compare to neither Billary (who I am not a fan of and never was) nor to the Donald (on whom I don't find anything to write home about either).

As such, if you insist, in the highly theoretical scenario in which I'd ever have to choose between Trump and Marine and/or Hillary and Marine, Marine wouldn't make it.

IOW by way of "evil" neither of the candidates in the last US elections compares to Marine in my book.

And since I am happily ensconced in Europe (albeit not France) and not the US, I was fortunately relieved of the conundrum facing the US voters last year.

Oh I dunno.

What next, both born of a woman and sired by a male?

Well this is a much more realistic threat, because they can just go to another EU country, probably Belgium. Though Le Pen definitely has the odds stacked substantially against her.

LOL, okay. How many times have I or you heard our own Hollywood star types state or threaten to leave or go to Canada if a Republican wins the White House? Same thing for France and its celebs. They never do leave.

Kind of why I posted it.

Like I said before in this case they actually can, very easily because of the EU.

Got any proof of that, or are just expecting everyone to believe it?

I've noticed that Gérard Depardieu is not listed.

Okay, he already pre-empted Marine by becoming a Russian over 4 years ago.

That's what I call "going the whole hog".

Our Hollywood celeb types could easily leave here for your place up north. But they never do. The gloom and doom, the end of the world all these celeb types say will happen never does either. They continue to make their millions, tens of million, who it is under, Obama or Trump, it doesn't matter. Whether its LePen or Macron, French celebs will continue to rack in the dough and stay.

'Same difference' describes a relationship between four different things, rather than simply two things as you referred to.

You are deeply confused if you think the only voting bloc in history that voted in opposition to the other candidate, rather than in favor of their own, is HRC2016.

You are awfully picky aren't you? Why would a totally new generation be responsible for any of that? Why don't people concern themselves with the present?

No, I'm not "awfully picky". Not downplaying the actions of Nazi collaborators is literally bare minimum decency-- or at least it should be.

A new generation which doesn't keep in mind the evil of the past is likely to repeat such evil.

Actually the rhetoric(-al question) of "Why don't people concern themselves with the present?" is the most favoured ploy of both old and new Nazis thruout Europe.

It is simply a variation of "a line needs to be drawn under history, we can't be confronted with this any longer". Invariably to be followed by denial of said history altogether.

The slowly fading old Nazis used this to avoid their (at least moral) responsibility and instilled it into the more receptive among following generation(s), so that a disgraced ideology might resurface and be maintained for future use and purpose.

The father did it, the daughter is doing it and today's followers of equally despicable mindset happily grab the convenient "free card" that frees from reflection and contemplation, but - most importantly - from any responsibility towards avoiding repetition.

Consequently (and thus not surprisingly) finding the next step towards expression of outright anti-semitism conveniently easy.

That an account on here describing the distaste over an anti-semite making second place in the first election round while all that coincides with the (European) day of remembrance for the holocaust victims (and describing how French Jews feel about that) is thus met with the comment of "**** happens" gives no cause for amazement.

It just confirms Reuven Riflin's assessment (Israeli President) of "a growing phenomenon in Europe of renunciation of national responsibility in the name of alleged victimhood being a new, more destructive and dangerous kind of Holocaust denial than previously witnessed."

Obviously extending beyond Europe when it suits personal political agenda in the pursuit of which sensitivity (if at all ever possessed) is trashed.

That such developments have certain French at least contemplating to leave the country (should it fall to the advocates of this despicable ideology), is not surprising.

Not to mention those that already have been leaving for years and not just to escape taxes.
