French celebrities vow to leave if Le Pen wins[W:50]

We will gladly accept them here in the United States.

Imagine.

Our lefty wackos in hollywood moving to france as a protest against trump and their lefty wackos moving here as a protest against Le Pen

Its a crazy mixed up world we live in

Some people care far too much about what celebrities think or say. I've never understood why people care so much. Look at how many people follow every move the kartrashians make. How empty must your life be to be bothered with all that nonsense.

Sad.

And unfathomable.

Oh my! This almost destroyed America, what is with these people?:lamo

Will France survive?

France's few remaining Jews may also wish to leave if she wins. She may not speak much with her father but her antisemitism and holocaust denial is still there.

That's who those talking about someone defeating the "global elites" is arguing for - an anti-semite.

the European Jewish Congress said:
It is extremely regrettable that more than one in five French voters voted for Le Pen. We call on all democrats to rally together to prevent Madame Le Pen from winning in the second round, which would be a prize for extremism and intolerance and a dark day for France.
Especially on Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), we are painfully aware, as Jews, of the history of those who cloak themselves in the mantle of democracy but whose agenda is divisive, racist and antisemitic. Le Pen has made comments against the historic record of the Holocaust, which makes her no less dangerous than her Holocaust-denying father who she has tried to hide, but whose agenda remains with her and her party.

Yeah, today is Holocaust Remembrance Day in Europe.

Because this is a different election, and because around the globe her arguments keep winning elections.

"Hi fallutin'

Maybe you meant "across the pond" (as seen from, here) rather than "around the world"?

Who here is going to go on record as stating they believe Le Pen will win?
It ain't me babe,
no...no....no......
it ain't me babe

it ain't me you're lookin' for......... babe

~.............................I dont know a lot about France
That is apparent. Or you'd have given consideration to the fact that this election is not about who is going to run her but about who gets to be president.

The actual composition of the National Assembly (parliament) will be decided in election of coming June (also in two rounds) and the majorities there (or lack of them) will count wrt future government
but I know that they are long suffering and that the rot is getting worse fast and that so many people think that France is about to vanish......
Witout those people fulfilling the criteria of "most" that means absolutely nothing
And that this Macron fella is almost completely untested and is very much without troops,
On this I'll agree and that leads back to (rather forward to) the general election of June this year
so I am saying dont count Le Pen out just yet.
She would face the same hurdle if she won the second round here, just as much as Macron if he wins.

There is however little likelihood that the FN will gain a parliamentary majority and just as little likelihood of being able to form a coalition with any other party that would secure said majority.

Macron doesn't have a party (as yet) to speak of, yet he's nowhere near as unpalatable to all the others as Le Pen is.

Well yeah, but if one doesn't know anything much about France or its politics, how does one go about starting a thread on either?

Roman Polanski has a gripe about not living in the US and that tells you all you need to know about Poland.

Really? Like where? Trump I´ll grant you (at least in terms of the electoral college votes) but I´m not sure examples like the guy that came second place in Austria really count as winning. Maybe a signature bet is in order:mrgreen:

Yeah, today is Holocaust Remembrance Day in Europe.
In Israel actually.

In most of Europe (and the rest of the world) it's actually on Jan-27, commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on Jan-27, 1945.

Minor detail taking nothing from what you say on Marine and her origins.

My mistake. I was aware there were two different days for this - just went from the BBC article's quote from the linked article.

Still, telling that so many are cheerleading for a historical anti-semite.

Prior to this last weekend, I don't know if too many people that were even TALKING about 'the other guy'. Do you know what he stands for? Do you agree with him?

From what I hear most are falling (have fallen) for the claim that Marine cleaned up her Dad's act.

Which, to be fair, she has done. At least on the surface.

But as they say, once an anti-semite............

I wouldn't want to live in a country whose leader downplayed the crimes of Vichy France either.

You are awfully picky aren't you? Why would a totally new generation be responsible for any of that? Why don't people concern themselves with the present?

I've only followed what he says and he's been saying things for quite some time since long before the weekend.

What he stands for is another matter altogether, seeing he doesn't really have much of a political track record beyond having served as Minister (not elected, of course) for a mere two years under a socialist government.

The main redeeming feature that people appear to see in him is that he's not a fascist. And that he's not of the "same old, same old" either.

I'm not exactly crazy myself over someone being voted for by what he is not, but obviously his not being of the Le Pen ilk also played a role here.

Ironically the "new face/kid on the block" effect is also amusingly Trumpian, even where most of his supporters would indignantly deny the "equivalence".

Well, she's just announced she's stepping aside as party leader - let's see who takes over while she focuses on the Presidency...

**** happens.

Usually when you open your mouth.

So much for civility.

Temporarily.

It's a meaningless shenanigan but she hopes to fool others into giving her support beyond her base on the spin of "Hey, I'm not FN any longer, I'm Marine".
