Why are Russia and Turkey Holding Joint Naval Exercises in the Black Sea?

Turkish Leader Erdogan Assails Europe, Calls It ‘Sick,’ ‘Collapsing’

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has again raised the rhetoric against Europe, indicating he will reassess his country’s bid to join the European Union and saying Europe “will pay for what they have done” against the Turkish people.

In a speech on April 9 in Izmir, Erdogan said the EU bid will be back “on the table” after the April 16 Turkish constitutional referendum that if successful will sharply increase his ruling powers.

They did, but it was problematic. Russia's probing of the NATO underbelly in the region has been deliberate. And yes, Turkey is problematic. Russia is keenly aware Turkey can close off their access to the Med at a moment's notice.

Turkey can't block the Bosphorus due to Montreux Convention .. say Turkey did try to block the Bosphorus the Turkish armed forces would cease to exist within a couple of weeks they would be fighting on 3 fronts a Russian armed Kurds, Russian SAA forces from Syria and a full Russian assault via the Black Sea ... which would result in the opening blows of WW3 .... hence Turkey won't and can't block the Bosphorus ... had America got their wish of a naval base in Crimea Nato might have got their wish in bottling up Russia from being a force in the Mediterranean

Turkey would indeed be violating International Law, just like the Russians invading eastern Ukraine and the Chinese attempting to occupy the South China Sea have already. Understand, all these conventions aren't worth the paper they're printed on if only some abide by them, and in war nobody would fault the Turks if they shut down Russia's access to the Med. If Russia and Turkey were to go at each other WWIII will have already started. Don't think Turkey wouldn't call on NATO to honor their obligations. At least, that's how it stands today. Tomorrow is another matter.

if Russia was in Ukraine they would be drinking Vodka in Kiev within a week the simple thing is Ukraine brought the civil war on themselves the massacres in Odessa and Mariupol and the banning of all south Eastern Ukrainian political parties the banning of the Russian language in Schools when these regions in South Eastern Ukraine are 90% Russian speakers because that region is populated by large numbers of ethnic Russians because right up until 1922 South Eastern Ukraine was part of South Western Russia until a Soviet dictator decided to give a large chunk of Russia to Ukraine without the say of the Russian people living in these lands all this sparked the uprisings in Lugansk and Donetsk ... worryingly Ukraine after Maidan made WW2 Nazi war criminals national heroes like Stepan Bandera and the leaders of the OUN guilty of the massacres of 100-300k Poles and over 50K jews ... these are the sort of people the West have associated with ... after WW2 when we said Never again ... in Scotland we meant it

Russia is in eastern Ukraine. That has already been established as fact, and it is an illegal act in much the same manner as the Chinese occupation of man made islands in the South China Sea. Pointing to an imagined affront to international law as an equivalent to actual violations is not a sound basis on which to plant your flag. My original point was that Russia's best strategic interests are well served by maintaining working relationship with the Turks. I don't believe Turkey would shut down access to the Med on a whim, but if actual conflict were to erupt, they certainly could.

established by America and Nato the same America and NATO that claimed Saddam had WMDs and over stepped their mandate on Libya and Gadaffi

so where is the proof ... video or picture .... ... Ukraine used this image of Russians streaming out of the Roki Tunnel after Georgia had attacked and invaded South Ossetia as proof that Russia was in Ukraine

Erdogan's Turkey

stret-mr_dhjubmu.jpg

“A few fascists will never destroy Turkey’s honour,” he proclaims, calling on Turks to “defy the grandchildren of Nazis” and back the constitutional change.

Such abrasive comments have infuriated Western governments but delight his fans, who wear headbands with his name and chant his campaign song.

The only other face on the giant flags is Ataturk - and Erdogan is now on the verge of eclipsing the republic’s greatest icon. The old secular ideals of Ataturk are virtually a distant memory in this side of Turkey.

This is a loooooooong article chronicling Erdogan's rise to power.
