United Ireland

And yet Pete is against Catalonia breaking away from Spain...Go figure

Any chance to have a go, towards the English or Americans, he's the main protagonist.

I'm Irish. I'm prejudiced. I want England booted from Ireland. England created an apartheid state and caused misery and death. Even united, I would expect it to take 50 years to find normalcy. Too much hatred. Close to racism. Religion and war, as well. Dumb.
.

Well I'm Norwegian and I think that I can solve all your petty problems with another massive invasion of the British Isles. When faced with a couple hundred thousand screaming modern era Vikings, we'll make your petty little problems look pretty insignificant.

Im part Irish too, but the Swedish side of me says forget about the English and bash the Danes instead.

Swedes.... Did you ever hear about the time Sweden tried to invade Norway?? When the Swedish Army appeared, all the Norwegians climbed up on their roofs to hide. But the Swedes saw them and figured out the easiest way to deal with them was by throwing hand grenades. But the Norwegians were one step ahead of them and picked up the hand grenades, pulled the pins and threw them back.

You can thank my 2nd generation Norwegian grandfather for that one.

I love how these threads bring out the 'bash the English' crowd, Pete et al....and all the faux Irish! Hell, there's more Americans claiming to be Irish, than the Irish themselves

I'm Norwegian on my mom's side and British on dad's. My ancestors were the ones either invading Ireland from the north or taking their lands by force from the south. I see Irishmen as pretty much a revenue stream...

Do you know how Germany took Poland?

They marched in backwards and said they were just leaving.

If, that is, they're not claiming Cherokee forebears.

I have some Irish roots myself (somewhere) but I try to keep very quiet about it.:lamo

Ain't gonna happen cuz all dem screeching Vikings are too busy getting sloshed on cheap booze down here in Spain.

There's really no incentive for them to go where it's much colder and the beer tastes like horse piss.:rofl

Actually they let the Poles attack first.

I can link you to a neo-Nazi web site for corroboration if you wish.:2razz:

Kinda odd no one posted this one. But there was an election in Northern Ireland and the Unionists lost big time. This means that the chance of a united Ireland is bigger than ever, as the Unionists cant block legislation leading to such an event. Add to that, Brexit and just maybe there is a good chance of an United Ireland.

For the first time in my life, the prospect of a united Ireland is not only credible but inevitable | The Independent

One has to wonder if it is possible.

Anything;s possible these days. I read an article about the latest "quick" election and was going to post on the issue you're bringin up.

Yeah, the Brexit thing has really opened a can of worms for Ulster AND for Scotland. What I worry about with Scottish independence is trade. We're not talking about a particularly industrial country, but remaining in the EU for them is a good thing. As for Eire and the unionists, I can see some sort of accord; after all they made it to 1998 and I'm sure a great deal of people would hate to see that all go away. The Ulster Constabulary though has a habit of being so heavy handed that in 2005, both sides were mad at 'em and public buses were being pulled over, politely evacuated and set on fire!

If the radical elements and the marching season can be controlled, then I think they have a shot together and I think that with independence Scotland will just draw closer to them: both states of Ireland have always been close to Scotland, particularly in the north. I think it would be smart for London NOT to fan any flames and perhaps pull away from radicalism. I don't know about Wales; they too have a genetic hate for the English, but again, I think it revolves around being able to afford independence.

That is a joke. I know you have heard at least one.

Thank you.

I so often forget to thank those that bring interesting items for discussion.

Pfft, Norwegians. Bunch of sardine salesmen who got steamrolled by the Germans. Stockholm is the capital of Scandinavia, by the way. :2razz:

So you support the IRA? An organization that spent decades killing innocent men, women and children? Planting nail bombs in busy high streets....

Of course, one has to remember that the PIRA of the latter half of the Troubles was largely founded in reaction to rampant infiltration of the RUC by Protestant, Loyalist paramilitaries who committed plenty atrocities of their own.

Swedes are nothing but alcoholics and hot blondes (female!). And the real capital of Scandinavia is Roskilde (1387 to 1443) or/and Copenhagen (1443 to 1523) during the Kalmar Union, the only time that the 3 Scandinavian countries were under the same ruler.

You’ll note that pro-united Ireland article referenced a single poll from Southern Ireland but none from Northern Ireland. That’s because support for United Ireland, certainly in the immediate term, isn’t all that strong even among Republicans in NI. A much more likely push would be for greater devolution, even independence. In general terms, there are very few political campaigns for merging nation states because no politician is going to argue themselves out of a job.

All of this is jumping too far ahead anyway. The balance of power in NI has shifted but the changing vote was still relatively small, everything is still balanced on a knife-edge and the future political environment still unclear. On top of that, there’s going to be zero interest in any kind of change on the part of the UK government, especially while Brexit is ongoing. In practice I don’t see very much changing in the foreseeable future and I don’t see anyone holding sufficient power to push for significant shifts in any direction.

Swedes are very disciplined and they do not get drunk. You may think they are alcoholics but thats only because they buy the cheap liquor in Copenhagen.

And here is proof of the capital of Scandinavia. Pictures dont lie:

Its a fact that Irish Americans are the second largest European ethnic group in the US, much more than British-Americans.

Pft.. Swedes invented a way to get drunk at non alcoholic events.... drink a liter of cream, and then a lot of booze. At the non alcoholic event, buy a lime-lemon drink.. and then wooooooooowwwww...

Swedes are great at improvising. They decided to drink probably because it was some sort of boring Danish ceremony or parade.

That was from wikipedia, so no.
