Germany calls for changes to EU?s human rights safeguards so migrants can be returned to ?unsafe? states | National Post

Germany has called for the European Union to scrap human rights safeguards so migrants can be deported to countries currently considered unsafe.

Under the plan, asylum seekers who cross the Mediterranean illegally could be sent back to “transit” countries such as Libya, Tunisia, and Algeria while their cases are considered.

The proposals come as a leaked German government paper warned that as many as 5.9 million people could seek to enter the EU from countries around the Mediterranean.
This would be used for unusual influxes (substantial numbers as seen the other year) of illegal immigrants entering the EU. Similar in policy to Australia. where illegals are held in camps in other countries

This may be a coming trend in some 1st world countries that are faced with substantial numbers of illegal immigrants.

Canada may have to renegotiate with the US the safe country agreement. Those that cross from the US to Canada by simply avoiding border check points are able under Canadian Law to claim refugee status, if their country of origin is deemed unsafe. Mexico is not deemed unsafe by the Canadian Govt.

The german government is already deporting refugees denied asylum status to places like Afghanistan or North Africa by arguing that the countries are not dangerous everywhere. Under the Schengen agreement Germany has been protected against immigrants as it has no border with a non safe country. Under the treaty the country of entrance into the EU owns the refugees. Only for the short period of Merkel's "Willkimmenskultur" didvthey let it rest. Now the push is again more or less under control for the country and the "Willkommen" is all used up.

It has been one of the central pieces of news for a few days. There are literally thousands of hits, if you were interested. Here is a mixed vid and text, but you should probably take in today's stories, should you want to get a picture of the debate.

If she's not dumb then plays the part really well. Maybe she should consider a career in Hollywood and star as an idiot in some movie.

Well, as far as refugees from Afghanistan are concerned

Dozens of Afghans deported from Germany as Merkel takes firmer line | Reuters

......Germany declaring a country safe (no war zone) is a bit rich, when by now (again) over half that country's territory is controlled by radicals and warfare continues.

As to the info presented that Germany already deports refugees back to North Africa, that's a load of bumpf. The people it DOES deport back (or tries to) are citizens of those North African countries and, not considered to be from a war zone, "mere" migrants (in the case of Libya somewhat questionable).

A Syrian refugee, for example having made it to Germany via Tunisia, has every chance of having asylum granted.

He or she would however either have to arrive at a German airport by plane, or row all the way to Germany's North Sea coast. Entering the EU by sea would of necessity entail first contact to be on Southern EU soil, thus being forced to apply for asylum in that country (Greece, Italy, possibly Spain) and the country obliged to process the application.

The distribution of those refugees thruout the EU (seeing how the poorer Southern EU members can hardly be expected to bear the whole onslaught) is a totally different matter.

................s/he allegedly does but the convoluted presentations raise doubts over actually understanding it.

Seeing how you constantly demonstrate utter ignorance on Europe in general and (here) Germany in particular, your "contribution of information" to the thread topic here is as relevant as if you'd not posted.

Who is this German traitor calling for protectionism? Merkel will have him shot!

WTF are you talking about? Immigrants walk and pass through nation after nation, to get to their desired location.

:2wave: Hi Charlie,
Sure criminals break laws. It is illegal for the EU neighbours to let them pass and the illegal migrants to enter. Most get stopped in Turkey, Greece or Italy.

Send them all back from which they came. Immediately.

No. Not really. The countries along the refugee routes have stopped the trek considerably. Berlin has exerted enormous persuasion. But you are right that since proclaiming that they should come, Germany's neighbors are les law abiding and helpful than they had been beforehand.

That is increasingly, what they are edging towards.

You are explaining a fluid phenomenon with a static answer. Refugees have always wanted to travel to a desired location, fact.
