A quiet Paris bar where men play cards and bet on horses has become the unlikely focus of a national row over alleged no-go zones for women in predominantly Muslim areas.

The bar in the impoverished north-eastern suburb of Sevran is accused of being one of many in France where women are effectively banned.

A secretly-filmed French TV news report this week showed two women’s rights campaigners, Nadia Remadna and Aziza Sayah, being told not to enter the bar.

A 28-year-old regular, Mehdi, said: “Women are not banned here but this is a place for men. A practising Muslim woman who knows her religion would not come here.”

French women’s groups have organised a series of protests this year over male-only cafés and areas where they say women are discouraged from wearing skirts or walking alone in the evening.

The issue was highlighted in January by Pascale Boistard, who was then France’s minister for women’s rights. “There are areas in our country where women are not accepted,” she said.

'This isn't Paris. It's only men here' - Inside the French Muslim no-go zones where women aren't welcome

Apparently there are entire neighborhoods in France where women must hide themselves away, just like in Saudi Arabia. I feel like women's rights end whenever they run up against old world cultures who refuse to accept modern day European social norms.

Just like the women's libbers mostly remained silent while bill clinton was in the white house most leftwing feminists today are captives of liberal diversity that celebrates islam and avoids any criticism of it.

Ms Remadna, the founder of a group dedicated to saving children from crime and radicalisation called “The Mothers' Brigade” (La Brigade des Mères), said the men’s attitudes might be acceptable in Saudi Arabia, but “this is France”.

I guess the egg and your face were just perfectly aligned.....

Though, it is not at all like Saudi Arabia there are many places I would not advise a woman to go at night in Frankfurt Germany, nor a man for that matter. I suspect that there are more such places in Detroit.

Well the question is why. And if it is because of foreign people who are committing most of the crime...Detroit wouldn't be my first choice. That was a bastion of liberal success. Not like it was Canadian gangs down there doing anything. I would look to Miami or New York or LA. With the Haitians and Russians "chopping people's arms off with machetes."

At some point, it is up to the national law enforcement to step up and demolish the gangbanging assholes. Not all immigrants are bad. And the bad ones make life hell for the good ones. I wonder if the good ones would stand up to the bad ones if they knew they would be protected?

France is culturally one of the most conservative countries in the West.

And women are not allowed on some golf courses... and men not allowed in womens clubs. I would wager there are bars in any country where race, religion or sex is a condition of entry.. More anti-France crap from the Telegraph. Guessing the Brexit news needs covering up.

Yes, there are unsafe neighborhoods in every country. But is it legal in France to have Men Only establishments that are open to the public?

It's so telling when those of your political persuasion start praising the virtues of segregation! We are living in bizarre times, that is sure. Leftists now tell women to go home and huddle behind the stove, while right-leaning persons like myself, defend a woman's right to have a coffee or beer where she chooses.

Lest you think the article was only about bars that exclude women:

French women’s groups have organised a series of protests this year over male-only cafés and areas where they say women are discouraged from wearing skirts or walking alone in the evening.

The issue was highlighted in January by Pascale Boistard, who was then France’s minister for women’s rights. “There are areas in our country where women are not accepted,” she said.

Women are being told where they can go, what they can wear, and what hours they should be seen in public.

Are any of those religious based cultures? The right to refuse service is different than inequality. Or promoting it by allowing it.

Why would you worry about America in a thread having a fake moral panic about Paris?

I honestly believe guys should have their man caves where they can just be guys, tell an off color joke that doesn't offend anybody, scratch where it itches, engage in swapping lies and elaborating on life experiences, not have to worry about attending to a wife or date etc.

And if the women feel left out, then they should have their own hang outs where they can talk about the guys or whatever is on their mind without worrying about boring some date or noticing a fidgiting husband who wants to get out of there etc.

We're not discussing America here. The topic is based on attitudes in France.

TBH, all some people ever talk about here is America, whatever the topic. That and MOOZLUMS ARE COMING!

I don't know about France. In London the club library was off limits to women and they were allowed into the sauma areas once a week. What it is now, I am not sure. The dining room had just been opened so you could be accompanied.

LOL so it is okay if it was not religious based?

So you are also against nuns, the Amish, various cults in the US and around the world of course? They all do this.. Hell Scientology does it!

Nuns choose their path in becoming nuns.
Amish women may leave and dress however they want.
Women who join cults like Scientology choose to join.

Women may not dress how they want or enter certain public establishments in some Muslim neighborhoods in France.

Forstå?

Many dont.

Yes, just like Muslim women.

Yes and some Muslim women choose to live under such conditions.

Women may not dress how they want or enter certain public establishments in some Muslim neighborhoods in France.

Yes so you say.. is it illegal to dress as they want in those neighbourhoods? No, hence your accusation is false. You do know that there are places in the world, dominated by certain religions, where women are also "banned" or harassed massively if they dont dress as it is expected.. right? Hell there are certain religious cults that demand not to sit next to women on planes and cause massive delays for other passengers.. funny how you dont complain about those eh?
