Maria Ladenburger was a 19-year-old female student who was initially named as Maria L. by the police, in accordance with German privacy law. She was the daughter of an EU official, Clemens Ladenburger.

Ladenburger had attended a party hosted by the faculty of medicine. She left the party at 2:37 a.m. and was on her way home by bike. She was raped near the Schwarzwald-Stadion and died of drowning in the river Dreisam shortly after 3:00 a.m.

The suspect, identified as Hussein Khavari, is an Hazara from Ghazni, Afghanistan, who immigrated into Germany in 2015 and who may have spent time in Iran.

Khavari has been quite busy since being adopted by Europe. In 2013, while living in Greece, he robbed a college student, and threw her over a cliff. Despite the victim being heavily injured, Khavari only served 1.5 years in prison. He moved to Germany, and raped and murdered a 19 year old German medical student this year.

Khavari has also been named as a suspect in the rape and murder of another German woman, 27 years old, in Freiburg.

That's horrible... how can people do this ?
How can we stop it ?

... I don't know

We can start by not assuming everyone who immigrates to another countries is simply coming there for a better life.

In the US,we take in 1,000,000 people per year through the system. That's more then we should do.

Yes, but how do you know which immigrants are going to commit crime ?
In this case the immigrant already was a criminal in Greece. After serving his sentence, what was the Greek government supposed to do ? Keep him in the country ? Send him home ?

Should Germany do a background check on every single person entering the country in order to make sure they don't have a criminal record ? This goes against the EU's free movement of person's law...

The problem is very complex, as you can see. Most people would agree with you : Not all immigrants are peaceful & well intentioned individuals (obviously).

There are bad people in the world. They do bad things. Hopefully justice will be properly served.

1 mill documented and who knows how many undocumented people and yet we don't have rampant murders, bombings, violence, etc. I think it's safe to assume the vast majority are coming here for a better life.

Any country should do background checks on incoming immigrants. IMO, that's not happening especially in Europe with it's open borders.

Yeah, that's why Mexico is getting $25,000,000,000 in remittances. A better life for who?

Considering :

1) The size of Germany's border
2) The amount of immigrants incoming
3) The regular import & export of goods through Germany

How can one possibly organize background checks ? It doesn't seem logistically feasible.
You would have to check every person & vehicle entering the 2'200 mile land border...

That (bolded above) is the problem. This kid (teenager?) was convicted of a (violent felony?) crime yet served less than 2 years in jail/prison and was allowed (told?) to leave the country (apparently no parole pr probation?). Refugees (and the "undocumented"?) are very difficult (if not impossible) to deport to their country of origin and the EU mandates free travel between its "states". This is sort of like a felon released in TN moving to TX and committing another crime - US states do not "vet" those that move into them either.

Themselves and they are able to send money to their families in Mexico to provide a better life for them.

Yep, when one can make as much working for one hour in the US as they could make working for a day in Mexico then the temptation to do so is great. Folks that complain about the low wages paid for working in the US should stop and think about that fact - as well as all of the jobs that US citizens (allegedly?) "will not do".

So a criminal gets early release and recommits... like that does not happen daily in the US or elsewhere...

I hate to break it too you but a lot of political leaders don't really care that a person commits a violent felony and get out after a year or two and then murders someone.

We have the same problem in California. Democrats stopped building prisons, now they are full and a judge orders releases due to overcrowding. Governor orders "non violent" felonies reduced and kicked out of prison. The only problem is most of these "non violent" felonies were plea bargains where the violent felony was dropped to get a plea.

So they are running around homeless, like little time bombs waiting to snap out on some citizen or run into a CCW and catch a bullet.

Merkel did this to Germany on purpose. She should study how Hitler rose to power.

This particular incident could've been prevented by deporting the offender after his first offense

please tell me that you do not believe that building more prisons is the answer to a crime free society?

What do you do with criminals then?

I believe much of our problem is what we define as criminal AND our choice of punishment vs reform

we have proven repeatedly that incarceration alone does not prevent recidivism

we simply can not afford as a society to keep locking up bodies that aren't violent or a threat to society and should be out supporting and feeding themselves not relying on my dollar to feed their ass

we have to examine what works and does not work

success is the goal

The bleeding heart progressives in Europe have become complete morons

He should have been deported after getting out of jail the first time

But he wasnt

That is rank stupidity matched only by some of our bleeding heart liberal/progressives in chicago or san francisco

would he not just have raped and killed elsewhere

a life is a life no?

That's that other country's problem.

I certainly don't want this guy moving to my street, I can't fix the whole world, but the German Government could have fixed this your own citizens should have priority over everyone else on the planet when you're a government

How do you know which immigrants are going to commit crime ? The same way we know which citizens are going to commit crimes: We don't. So, should we simply put an end to immigration? Would doing so end horrible crimes such as the one described in the OP?

Maybe what Germany needs is a politician telling them that Afganistan is not sending them their best, but sending them their rapists and drug dealers.....
