The Guardian: A German court has ruled that a group of Islamists did not break the law in forming “sharia police” street patrols and telling people to stop drinking, gambling and listening to music.

Judges said there could only be a violation of the law – originally aimed against street movements such as the early Nazi party – if the uniforms were “suggestively militant or intimidating”, a court spokesman said.

According to the judges, "Sharia police" is not intimidating and is not impersonating police forces. Yay. If German medias report this (will they?), I guess that AfD will gain two points thanks to those judges.

What a damn fiasco, how could this "sharia police" be legal? (We may need someone from Germany to explain this one.)

Thanks, Merkel.

It doesn't seem like they can really do anything. They're just running around telling people not to drink, gamble, or listen to music. Sounds like the Mormons, lol.

I mean, so long as they aren't harassing or assaulting people and they have no authority to back up their demands with government force, there's not much of a problem.

how is this any different than the Christian police we have in our town? imo its their religious freedom to have their police.

It has been reported and given a positiv spin generally. It is interpreted as a free expression of opinion. The AfD and other groups that are worried by the immigrant problems are less positive and do not accept the spin.

They are not intimidating nor look like police uniforms. What is wrong with this ruling? There are tons of "vigilantly" type organisation that are legal, so why should this not be? I dont support this of course, nor do I support the other vigilantly groups but as long as the law does not ban all types, including the freaking Salvation Army and Mormon idiots in their suits, then there is nothing you can do about it.

We have "Christian Police" running around telling non-Christians to stop drinking, socializing, and carrying on because Christianity is offended?

And no, "Religious Freedom" does not include the right to use an ideology to overpower another.

Where was this, and what was the context of the encounter?

The fact that they carry the word "police" and that "police" is inherently intimidating, two legal reasons to ban them according to the German law. This should really be common sense for anyone: you don't call yourself "police".

Roanoke county va.

she was at the general store off 81 and her dress was a little short. her knees were exposed. the RP found her and told her to go home and cover them.

So like an Islamic(ist?) version of the Guardian Angles?

Personally I'd tell them to get bent if they told me not to do something that was otherwise legal and which I choose to do, and so long as it ended there I'd be fine with it.

But I'm probably not their target audience either, and I don't drink, gamble, or listen to music so I think I'd be more or less on the same side of the "law" they're on anyhow.

I can picture that: "the Sharia Police is a wonderful advance ofr our countries, a proof of our openmindness and how we left the Darkest Hours of History behind us". Apparently they learned nothing from the American medias' mea culpa after Trump.

AfD +2%

I would have told them off... what authority did they claim to have to do something about it?

So a Halloween costume is now illegal?

Only for legal fundamentalists who insist on literal readings of the law and ignore the context. I am not surprised that you pretend to not see the difference.

I do not buy this at all, that the Roanoke county police department is running around "enforcing" modesty laws.

So a Halloween costume is now illegal?

Muslims don't celebrate the Eve of Samhain, or in the US, "All hallows eve", and lastly, Halloween isn't on Nov 21st in Germany.

Ridiculous decision. How do you think they would have ruled on Hitlers brown shirts?

in our town, we voted to give them that power.

All it takes is a real arrest, a challenge to the law, and off to the courts we go. If you are saying no one has then you are living in a community of cowards.

so far things have run smoothlie. so long as the wife and i have the kids in church by 9, theres never any trouble

Sharia Police are not a positive thing. They're mimicking the sharia patrols in Saudi Arabia, only they can't yet beat women who are dressed 'immodestly', or arrest people who are listening to non-Allah approved music.

Sharia patrols in the UK were more confrontational, with these clowns calling women whores and telling them they'd burn in hell. Luckily the UK has laws against badgering people with your silly hang ups in public.
