PROTESTS are taking place in a town in Bosnia-Herzegovina because only Arabs are allowed and most of the houses contain the third or fourth wives of wealthy sheikhs.


Locals are fuming because they are are only allowed into the site in the south-eastern Europe country if they are servants or cleaners.

The complex is surrounded by heavy security, gates and high walls and the locals think it is unlawful for foreigners to buy up part of the country and then ban them from entering.

Obviously you know nothing about gated communities in the US.

With the exception of NYC, where liberals have a system in place that requires potential residents to pass an approval process before being allowed to move in, there are laws against discrimination. It seems apparent the community featured in the OP is not under such restrictions.

You obviously don't know much about the background of this particular piece of real estate. Or are you seriously proposing that the locals have the kind of money to buy a piece of it (or want to) and are simply prevented from so doing by anything other than being in the wrong income bracket?

Yeah; we had plenty of things like drinking fountains in the US: some for blacks only, some for whites only. And these days, if you're gay - don't order a wedding cake.

You are correct, I do not know much about the piece of real estate in question. In fact, I know nothing about it other than what was presented.

My response was to a poster who suggested the issue detailed in the OP "... sounds like a gated community in the US... "

Well, I reckon gated Arab communities would be a bit of a rarity in the US, yet the principle of precluding "locals" to move in on lacking necessary affordability works there as well.

Ok, I'm going to assume English isn't your primary language as your post is extremely disjointed.

If I understand what you are saying, you're equating income levels to the ability to exclude people from moving into areas.

There is nothing in the US that precludes someone from earning a sufficient income to move into any place of their choice. Well, besides many buildings in NYC.

I'm no particular fan of ANY sort of ghetto-ization, but I guess a ghetto arising out of affluence is more tolerable than one enforced by poverty.

are truly simplistic of the kind that only childishness can produce.

More apt in the concept being discussed would be that an exclusively rich neighborhood shows market forces as functioning well.

None of which would mean that I'd be particularly pleased to suddenly have a sheikh colony spring up next door. One of the reasons (albeit the least of all of them) I wouldn't be living in Marbella.
