Police in German city thwart terror plot and nab suspect thanks to tip from Syrian migrants | National Post

The suspect, identified as Jaber Albakr, is accused of planning a bomb attack and having possible ties to the Islamic State.

The incident comes after a string of arrests across Germany of migrants suspected of plotting terrorist acts. It further added fuel to questions about potential risks from the hundred of thousands of migrants who flocked to the country last year during an exodus into Europe from Syria and elsewhere.

On Monday, three Syrians who recognized Albakr tied him up in their apartment and called police, ending a nearly two-day hunt, authorities said.
It is clear they probably saved people lives.

Just to add, Al-Bakr had evaded arrest when the apartment were he lived was raided (there's still some hullabaloo about police incompetence over this) and his wanted poster was planted all over the social media.

Apparently he approached one of his "countrymen" at the Leipzig main railway station for help and the guy, recognizing him pretty quickly, offered him a place to stay for the night.

Once home, things went South for Al-Bakr

Encouraging news that it was a Syrian man who turned in the suspect.

There were actually 3 Syrians involved in taking the guy.

perp meanwhile committed suicide. Hanged himself with his T-shirt in the cell.

German intelligence are furious at the Saxon dilettantes. Considered suicidal by just about everyone, he even got around to tearing the ceiling light down and trying to rip an electrical socket out in his cell and those dolts running the Leipzig jail still didn't get it.

Well, he won't be answering any questions much anymore.
