MEDDLING Brussels has said the British press should not report when terrorists are Muslims in a slew of demands to the Government to crack down on the media.
The report makes a whopping 23 recommendations to Theresa May’s Government for changes to criminal law, the freedom of the press, crime reporting and equality law.

Someone had posted on French suppression of free speech this morning. There is a strong push from governments to selectively restrict, what may be said. I have been following it with some concern.

In the US there is also suppression, though. It is mostly private interests there, though, there seems to be quite a bit in institutions of education.
 
For skeptics, here is the part in question: “In this context, it draws attention to a recent study by Teeside University suggesting that where the media stress the Muslim background of perpetrators of terrorist acts, and devote significant coverage to it, the violent backlash against Muslims is likely to be greater than in cases where the perpetrators’ motivation is downplayed or rejected in favour of alternative explanations.”

In other words, instead of writing "Islamic terrorists kill 200", they want the press to write "poor victims of discrimination kill 200". Social factors are such a convenient explanation, they allow us to not question anything and continue to bury our heads in the ground.


There is a problem with Islam. Not just a few hundreds of them, not just the poor, not just in our countries, with Islam in general. Two exactly:
* for decades all around the world, there has been a growing worldwide radicalization and a rising far-right Islamic totalitarianism.
* their numbers in our countries are quickly rising, and they are are changing our countries for the worse. Their cultural influence is excessive and undesirable, and there is less freedom and tolerance where Muslims are many.

Those are the problems we must urgently discuss. Covering the facts in the hope that problems will eventually disappear while they are aggravating every year is foolish.

The Daily Express is a small step above the National Enquirer without the occasional accuracy. Editorially they hate Europe with a passion, but that's only one of their repeating themes.

They are recommendations! They are not telling anyone anything! It is a report, ordered by among others.. the UK!

This is a typical xenophobic anti-EU bull**** article coming from the British press.

You're doing what some of the Daily Express comment makers are doing and using a huge broad brush. At one level, you have commentators on the article claiming all terrorists are muslim - then when the next IRA *continuity / real / etc etc bomb goes off those idiots will claim all terrorists are Irish.
So, while some elements of the British press are pretty poor - that does not mean ALL the British press.

You have to admit that paper wise.. a huge portion of the British press are owned by Tories and are very anti-European.

Don't really see how recommendations vice orders really takes away from the overall point, that being the E.U. doesn't want the media to report facts.

So let me ask you this.. every time a christian white person commits a crime, then of course the media points out that he is a christian white person right?

What the EU recommends, and many outside the EU also recommend.. is not to use religious or ethnic labels when reporting crime as it is biased as hell.. either you do it for ALL crimes, or none at all.

Also there is a tradition in most countries of not doing statistics based on religion.. and that is a good tradition.

We live under a political repression that jails people who would like to measure reality and know the truth, that represses scientific investigation of our society. Even the govt barely knows the material it is supposed to work on, although they have more data than we do.

We are blind car race drivers, we are Galileos repressed by your holy dogmas. Those pro-ignorance policies and pro-minority social intimidation are the reasons why we let the problem become so big instead of reacting early.

Take your "it is about Islam".. no it is not. Both the bible and Islam have extremely violent passages that justify everything from incest, to rape, to mass murder. You dont see all Christians practice all the "laws of the bible", just as you dont see all Muslims practice the Koran fully.

But you do see often uneducated people being manipulated by certain types of people to do bat crazy things and they use religion as a manipulation tool.

Look at ISIS. Do you really think that they want to have a Caliphate? Of course not, but it is a strong historical primer in Middle East history. Their leaders want political power and to control people. They want girls and boy sex slaves.. they want to be able to take their frustrations out on people have no consequences. They want to tell others what to do, because that makes them feel powerful. How do you do that? Easiest way is religion.. Islam, Christianity, Scientology, .. all the same crazy thing when it comes to cults.. which ISIS is. Throw in a promise of going back to the glory days of the Caliphate, and not being under the oppression of dictators (yea the irony), and you have fertile ground for recruitment. Right wing views, words and policy are the best recruiting tools a wacko cult can have.

Now as soon as you start labeling it all "Islamic" and blame the Koran, then you basically have given up and let the terrorists win. That is exactly what they want, as it pushes more uneducated people right into their laps. Hell the right wing does the same. By saying "it is Islams fault", the right gives a face uneducated people can relate too and hate against. Hitler did it against the Jews... Roman Ceasars did it against the Christians. It gives the people saying it.. power and followers.

So you have 2 sides who basically fuel each other, and THAT is something we have to stop. Hate fuels more hate.

Yes. I saw that. But it is typical for a lot of European thinking. Each of their cultures and systems takes offence at different topics to be silent on and types of expression that must be forbidden, while laughing and criticizing other countries for their backwardness. So it is not surprising that the EU would find some new muzzles after losing Brexit.

And maybe one day Islam will become like Catholicism today, but it is not. Islam today in 2016 is becoming a totalitarian global movement, like it has been for the past decades, more radical and more proselyte every year. The day Islam will change, I will change my attitude towards it.

That being said the comparison between Islam and Christianism is shallow: only the Old testament really is retrograde in the Bible and the characters of Jesus and Muhammad are incomparable: Jesus professed pacifism, Muhammad raped a child, enslaved his foes, and butchered people who had refused to convert.

What we really need to fight is your obscurantism, that prevents people to measure the magnitude of problems with Islam and become aware, you included, that a widespread Islamic totalitarianism is rising in their country. We do have a fascism problem, but it is not with the far-right, it is with Islam.

6 out of 20 is not 80% now or ever.

Only two are expressly UKIP and anti EU. You seem to be under the impression the EU only divided the Conservative Party - Jeremy Corby was abti EU and only mildly expressed support during the referendum. Others in the past like Peter Shore were staunch sceptics. Anyhow the conservative papers are not specifically anti EU, xenophobic papers.

Anyhow, even counting broadsheets, middle market and tabloids - only 6 out of 20 papers are solely conservative. The Sun does what Rupert Murdoch does and follows the leading populist movement - his papers in China are communist supporters.
