" Several thousand ethnic Chinese staged a protest march in Paris on Sunday over the fatal mugging of a Chinese tailor last month, as crime against community members has spiralled.
A lawyer for the community, Francois Ormillien, has warned that without an adequate response from city authorities the community could form "defence leagues" -- vigilante groups -- to defend itself."
" France’s estimated 600,000 Chinese, many of them French citizens, are an industrious and largely reticent community that rarely makes waves. But a recent spate of muggings and attacks has prompted thousands to take to the streets in protest.
‘We don’t enjoy real freedom’
“When the Chinese come to France they make money, create jobs and pay taxes. […] But nobody looks after us. We’re a forgotten community.”

Parisians of Chinese ancestry living in the Aubervilliers commune of Paris are being targeted for hate crimes, muggings, and murder.
I became interested in the Aubervilliers area after reading this story, why are hard working Chinese residents being treated so poorly. Here's an interesting statistic I uncovered;
"According to demographer Michèle Tribalat, in 2005 about three-quarters of young people under 18 years old in the commune (Aubervilliers) are foreign or French of foreign origin, mainly from the Maghreb and sub-Saharan Africa."
