Under-fire EU chief Jean-Claude Juncker risked widening divisions with European leaders today by saying borders were the 'worst invention ever'.

He called for all borders across Europe to be opened, despite the chaos caused over the last year from the flood in refugees fleeing Syria and the wave of terror attacks hitting various continent's cities.

Jean-Claude Juncker is a conservative politician. He is leader of the European People's Party, a centre-right coalition of Christian Democrats. I'm aware that for some people saying something with which you disagree automatically makes them a socialist, but that doesn't make them one in any rational sense.

He is not under fire... and he is correct. Border controls are idiotic and wont stop illegal migration internally in Europe. Why? Take Denmark... there are police at the border crossing. All they are doing, is checking that people are not bringing too much booze and cigs across the border. Now is the border secure? of course not, you can cross it in a field 500 meters down the road. To make borders secure across Europe, you need walls, manned every 100-200 meters with watch towers.. only then will you remotely get secure borders. That costs money.. lots of money and it will make people feel like they are living in a prison. Is that what you want?

Cant trust the UK media on this.. provide a link on the actual comment or speech. I have no doubt that he said it, but what exactly he meant is another matter and is it taken out of context?

No you can't, you can't see ****; you're making it up. I wouldn't give a **** what they do over there, because it will fail! The EU is failing, because there are too many cultural differences and too many scars; too many economic differences. They will never ever be the US or like the US. It won't work. It's easy to be safe in Canada, isn't it? Where you can't say nonsensical things like that.

I guess from a certain perspective it must. Would you think there's something essentially socialist about public education? Or mass transportation systems? I suspect you would. Actually, so would I, but then I don't recognise the word as a catch-all insult. Nevertheless, I don't think JCJ would be any more identified as a socialist than you would.

I was referring to the US as a Nation. Our history only goes back to approximately 1492, not thousands of years, like in Europe. We are still a new country in comparison. Sure you can count the Native American Indians, but their culture(as rich as it is) had been squashed by US expansion and the Indian wars.
They became a defeated people....many seem to forget that fact.
What I am saying is that everything prior to 1776 is a footnote in history, and our Nation became "one" in 1776.
