Re: "Gay Cake": Judge rules against Ashers bakery

I think everyone knew that. Go back to page one of this thread.

This is today's news. They've taken advice and confirmed that they will now appeal. Read the article.

Im sure it has just been announced, but everyone assumed they would do so from Day One. They had to, and there's a part of me hopes they win.

I'm thinking differently now about the appeal. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the moral issues at stake, traditional Christians are not in the majority, and we can't expect mainstream society and institutions to respect our conscientious beliefs any more.

Diplomatically and charitably, Ashers are probably better to roll over and adapt to survive (which they are able to do, it seems). Their ideological opponents are more likely to take on board their point of view over time (though not necessarily change their views), if they don't fight for it. Litigation causes so much anger and division in my experience (as a former litigation solicitor). Even when you're right, it can still be wrong to go to court.

Aaaa..................and the appeal is lost.

"...Delivering the appeal judgment, Northern Ireland's Lord Chief Justice Sir Declan Morgan said Ashers had directly discriminated.

He rejected the argument that the bakery would be endorsing the slogan by baking the cake.

"The fact that a baker provides a cake for a particular team or portrays witches on a Halloween cake does not indicate any support for either," he said...."

Of course the judge was acting dumb with the witches and Halloween simile. That is quite typical of the bigotry behind this particular type if "progressive" mind bend.

Lord Chief justices are legendary for "acting dumb" unlike rustic primitive religionists.
