    Summer is coming.

I chose that rip-off of a phrase from a popular multi-year TV presentation because it relates to a confluence of season, global warming and the COVID-19 zoonotic viral pandemic.

We've a large number of cruise ships, many still fully staffed, hovering off the coast of Florida in various un-sheltered anchorages.

Yes, you guessed it. Summer, hurricane season and cruise ships which are often of minimal stability compared to north Atlantic ocean liner designs.

We may witness something similar to a game of musical chairs as the ships vie for safe berths when a hurricane forms in the North Atlantic. Thus far, there seems to be little happening in disembarking the ship's crews and sending them back home to their COO's.

Regards, stay safe and remain well.

UM, there is no real safe berth in a Hurricane, unless it is behind a closable seawall.
Such places exists, but usually not big enough for a cruse ship.
I remember a conversation I had with the Captain of our research ship, who rode out Hurricane Alisha on the ship in Galveston channel.
He said he had the ship untied from the dock and went and motered around out in the very rough channel.
He said being tied to the dock, was dangerous.
I think most cruse ships are fast enough to evade a hurricane, especially if no passengers are on board.

Hi! Thank you for your nicely-reasoned post. It makes sense, something of a rarity these days.

Regards, stay safe and remain well.

I saw that on the Weather Channel yesterday. I’m still wearing a light jacket in Alabama.

For the Winters. This might come as a surprise but not all of us can afford two houses.
