Climate change: ‘Clear and unequivocal’ emergency, say scientists - BBC News

A global group of around 11,000 scientists have endorsed research that says the world is facing a climate emergency.

The study, based on 40 years of data on a range of measures, says governments are failing to address the crisis.

Without deep and lasting changes, the world is facing "untold human suffering" the study says.

The researchers say they have a moral obligation to warn of the scale of the threat.

A pretty damning report on where we currently are as a species, this on the back of the report that rising ocean levels will decimate South Easy Asia in the next 30 years. How many times are these warning going to fall on deaf ears?

How about the scientific community provide repeatable scientific proof that CO2 has a high climate sensitivity?
This is something that has not happened. All the speculation, is based on assumptions of sensitivity used as model inputs.

I mean its up to 408ppm which is double what it was 200 years ago and global temperatures continue to rise. Not to mention the 40 years worth of data they provided just today showing the trends. Not sure what else you could want?

Fossil fuel companies have long time known that manmade global warming poses a significant threat. Something even Rex Tillerson admit.

"It’s rare for a current or former leader of one of the world’s largest energy firms to testify under oath about climate change. That’s why a New York courtroom was packed on Wednesday to see ex-Exxon Mobil Corp. Chief Executive Officer Rex Tillerson take the witness stand and explain, in the context of a securities-fraud trial, that the company knew for years how global warming was a significant threat.

“We knew, we knew it was a real issue,” said Tillerson, 67. “We knew it was a serious issue and we knew it was one that’s going to be with us now, forevermore, and it’s not something that was just suddenly going to disappear off of our concern list because it is going to be with us for certainly well beyond my lifetime.”"

Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

While it haven't stopped fossil fuel companies from spending enormous amount of money on disinformation and lobbying in an attempt to delay the transition away from fossil fuels.

and 11 thousand scientists have supported its findings..... Name me any other area of science where you would ignore that many scientists?

11K is meaningless. There's like 8 million scientists in the world. If any of those 11K have similar credentials as the two authors of that study, then I'd say theyre all not qualified.

Loss of natural habitat is a more clear and more pressing and more easily addressed issue.

It's just another shovel full of BS tossed onto the pile.

11,000 Scientists "meaningless"...what a time to be alive lol.

Well CO2 has not doubled yet, The 408 ppm is up from 280 ppm, or 128 ppm, while doubling would be, well an increase of 280 ppm.
Do you understand that while CO2 is a greenhouse gas, the climate's response to added CO2, may not be catastrophic?
This concept of AGW, hangs on two actual concepts,
The First is that CO2 is a greenhouse gas(likely) and doubling it's level will force warming of ~1.1C.
The second part is that the 1.1C will be amplified through climate feedbacks to produce total warming
of between 1.5 and 4.5C.
While the 2XCO2=1.1C is loosely based on Physics, it has never been verified in a laboratory experiment.
The amplified feedbacks, are purely based on speculation and assumptions.
https://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/docs/1997/1997_Hansen_ha01900k.pdf
In the wonderland model, they just assumed that the feedbacks would be equal to a 2% increase in solar output.
A closer examination of the data, shows that greenhouse gas forcing alone accounts for most of the observed warming,
with almost no room left for any feedbacks.
Here is a simple test,
NOAA has categorized the greenhouse gasses as CO2 equivalents.
NOAA/ESRL Global Monitoring Division - THE NOAA ANNUAL GREENHOUSE GAS INDEX (AGGI)
The warming since 1880 is between 1 and 1.1 C, with ~.2 C from increases in solar output.
NOAA/ERSL has the 2018 CO2-EQ at 496 ppm from the 1880 level of 280 ppm.
the formula for how much forced warming this should create is,
(5.35 X ln(496/280)X.3)=.91C
From ACS,
Climate Sensitivity - American Chemical Society
As you can see there is not a lot of room for feedback response in the observed data, and some of that warming has been around for 70 years.

While the 2XCO2=1.1C is loosely based on Physics, it has never been verified in a laboratory experiment.
The amplified feedbacks, are purely based on speculation and assumptions.

Really long? You are going to go back to repeating this lie again??

Shame on you.

Buzz, please cite where ether CO2 forcing or the amplified feedbacks
have been validated in a laboratory experiment?

They can sign all the letters they want, it doesnt prove a thing.

When they have credentials like the authors (a forestry manager and a lawyer) of that study in your OP, then yes, their opinions are meaningless.

A bunch of liberal academics ( I know-redundancy ) claim global warming is a catastrophe. YAWWWWn

Who next? Journalists? Actors?

What... are you really wanting me to provide laboratory experiments? Have you suddenly forgotten all about all the studies of empirical evidence we have been arguing about for months now?

You don't understand. There were like 50 people who said something different like 50 years ago, so none of this matters.

Buzz, there are studies about how fast CO2 has risen, How the temperature has increased, Sea levels risen, ect ect.
There are studies that input assumptions for climate feedbacks to warming.
What there is not, is a study, referring to an actual laboratory experiment, where that show that doubling the CO2 level
would actually cause the 3.71 Wm-2 of imbalance assumed.
There is also no study validating that the total of all the climate feedbacks we know about, would be positive or negative.
Consider that 1.5 to 4.5C is an uncertainty range of 3C, as high, if not higher than most of the predictions.
