Toyota unveils images of upcoming all-electric cars, accelerates EV plans by 5 years - Electrek

During a briefing with the press this week, Toyota Executive Vice President Shigeki Terashi said that the automaker plans for half of its global sales to be electrified vehicles by 2025 – 5 years ahead of previous plans.
Serial hybrids are a better way to go than direct drives, so this is a good thing.
They do not qualify what Toyota means by electrified vehicles.

    The OP states
Revels images of all electric cars

Which may have been the case. When talking about 50% of the sales it was clearly stated electrified vehicles

    According to Toyota they are

The article states that Toyota wants 50% of its sales to be electrified vehicles, which I did state in my first post in this thread would include hybrids

I expect that for electrified vehicles Toyota is around 15% right now globally (guess on my part and most likely lower)

It is electrified, just not electric. I doubt any consumer is likely stupid enough to buy a hybrid vehicle without the knowledge it can also use gasoline and not just the minor battery range provide in a plug in hybrid
Wouldn't it be wiser not to include the IC engine and fuel tank (generator?) and just add more battery (range) capability? For those that want to add an IC powered generator (to recharge in remote areas?) make that an optional feature. It seems that carrying the added weight of an IC generator and its fuel supply 100% of the time is very inefficient.

So...how about if they say "we are moving at an accelerated rate to hybrid and or electrified cars with the understanding that electrified cars will still require fossil fuel production for recharging but is expected to gain a net positive reduction in pollutants"

    Wouldnt that make everyone happy?

I mean...cleaner air...cleaner water...realistic development of better and more efficient vehicles AND people smart enough to understand that fossil fuel arent going away an time soon...thats a good thing...right?

It would go a lot better if someone other than Tesla would start making electric cars that don't look like toasters. Based on the drawings in the link, Toyota seems poised to continue that baffling tradition.

I think the trade off between added batteries and a small IC motor would come out in favor of the IC generator.

here is a 2000 watt model that weighs 53 lbs, something built into the car could be less pounds per watt.

But the Cylon Toasters look cool:

The left says the right is full of racists and bigots and have no tolerance. Nobody from the right organizes interference with gay pride parades, or other leftist events. The left however always has a group interfering with events organized by the right. Who are the tolerant ones I ask? Most certainly not the left.
