AOC says Miami will not exists in a few years, if we do not do something about climate change.

Why the dodge? Clearly in your mind I failed basic game theory. All you have to do is show me that your knowledge of it is just a little better than mine.

...or do you even know what game theory is?
:lamo

Why the desperate attempt to avoid the fact that you advocate following an idiot over a cliff?

Its a shame the Brits didnt follow your lead. Now look at them. Climate refugees...no rain...no snow...snowfall was all just "a thing of the past"...back in 2000.

You continue to dodge with childish argumenta ad hominem. :) Just answer the question, or you will be assumed to know absolutely nothing about game theory.

Only one right winger here stated that he doesn't want AOC to be right without attacking and insulting her and her "followers".
Right wingers here should follow his example.

No...I continue to point out the fact that you advocate following a chick that is dumb as a box of rocks over a cliff...just in case. And I'll continue to do so because that LITERALLY is what you are doing, by your own admission.

It is obvious that you know nothing about game theory. :) Hell you won't even take the slightest time to look up what game theory even is or why it applies here. Instead, you're doubling-down on your childish attacks on AOC, which have zero bearing on the veracity of my point. AOC could be even dumber than Trump and that still wouldn't affect the veracity of the claim on the table, which you are deliberately and intentionally avoiding.

Face it, Vance. You don't have a god damn clue what you're talking about here.

Hmm. Cum laude in economics. A congresswoman. And here you are, whining about her. :lamo

Dude, I live in South Florida. In August when this article was written we had 10" of rain. Where do you think all that rain goes? When the tide comes in and the ground is already saturated where do you think the water goes?

Tide is different than rain don't you know.

It is very obvious you are keen to avoid the fact that you advocate following a chick that is dumb as a box of rocks over a cliff...just in case. And I'll continue to do so because that LITERALLY is what you are doing, by your own admission.

We may not be able to stop it but at least we can try to minimize human influence in speeding it up and causing more damage.

That is where I disagree on 3 fronts:
1. Actually there is very little humans can do given how little humans are a factor.
2. The costs and harms to so radically alter life styles isn't worth slowing down the rate 1%.
3. There are other urgent environmental issues such as the poisoning of our waters and how to well feed a human population soon to go over 8 billion,
4. while ideally peoples quality of life improves worldwide - rather than declines claiming we can some how fight the earth's evolution itself.

There you go again, Vance, doing exactly what I just said you did. Clearly you lack the willingness to understand that even if you were right about AOC's intelligence--and you're definitely wrong on that, but even if you were somehow right--that would add ZERO merit to your argument. All that matters is whether the game theory applies. All that matters is the trade-off between overreacting and underreacting to climate change. That's it. That's what you stubbornly refuse to accept, and it's why you are completely embarrassing yourself on this thread.

Bottom line is, you know nothing whatsoever about game theory. You can't even explain simple examples of it, let alone complex instances. I'd love to elaborate on that, but since you fail the basics of the basics, I can't even go that far, now, can I?

Slap a dome over Miami and make it the worlds largest Atlantis theme park.

The movie Arrival is a good watch to learn about the zero-sum game.

Ok that made me laugh. Sea World would be in competition with Disney World.

Setting aside the geologic history of earth's sea levels over the last 50 million years, just on my own land and land near it it is known the sea level is rising.

For example, from the the ancient Native people's stone burial mounds (just piling on rocks over a shallow trench that likely began as a necessity to stop bodies from flooding in the rainy season or with tidal surges. This likely evolved to some ritual.) The older the are the lower they are to sea level. The oldest are fully underwater. I can see the salt water intrusion death-line moving inland over the last 5 decades or so by the age of the decay of the dead trees, palms and change in the vegetation.

The sea level has been rising for a long time and the rate of rise has been increasing. This is entirely consistent with geological history, including the fact that the faster ice melts, the faster it melts - just as the faster it freezes, the faster it freezes. Since this is the earth in the melting mode the rate of thawing will continue to increase.

As for long term plans, the only rational perspective if figuring best possible the rate it will be necessary to build dikes and relocation to higher elevations. Throwing trillions and trillions at trying to slow down the inevitable is foolish - as rational as claiming if we put up huge fans blowing at a hurricane we could at least weaken it a little bit. We can not stop earth doing what earth does.

Since AOC said it, it must be true.

Economists make the best weather predictors, after the fact. And they never get fired for being wrong.

When Ponce de Leon in 1513 sailed into Biscayne Bayer or as it was known to native Tequesta peoples as Chequescha, land under water. The villages of the Tequesta, about 600 strong, for more than 2,000 years, found the swamps and wetlands barely hospitable for subsistence living, most of the tribe having departed for the island paradise of what is now Cuba more than a thousand years before. More than 30% of de Leon's crew succumbed to tropical diseases like malaria within 30 days of arrival. For modern Dade County, to return to its long time status of land under water would be a return to the norm, not the aberration Miami is today, a European settler vision of landfill. A climate change correction of the geography. Mother Nature taking her natural course. The natural revenge of the nearly destroyed nearby Everglades. The Latin Capital of America, and all its snowbird condos would be relegated to history as a failed experiment of terra forming. Sounds like a plan.

Protect the air, water and natural resources that we all need to survive. It's really not that complicated unless of course, you're in denial.

"Ban farts"....did you make that up all by yourself?

Why do people believe in that drivel? Nobody is going to ban airplanes, burgers, fossil fuels and cow farts. They need to grow up.

Okay, Einsteins, please give us a step by step program on achieving carbon neutrality then. :waiting:

But a canoe will do. A paddle, another story.

Not even that- just sit back, relax, and watch the chicken littles go nuts over nothing.

Well then that feckin settles it Rick! As long as Boca Chica Key hasn't seen a rise in tide levels then global warming isn't happening. Clearly Boca Chica is the key (pun intended).

Global warming is simple. Earth warms, ice melts, seas rise. Midway is another example with plenty of WWII pictures that can be compared to satellite today.

I am always amazed at the ignorance of those who think our foothold on this planet is not precariously balanced. The failure to recognize we are all at the mercy of a thin film of protective gas known as our atmosphere and the unstable ground beneath our feet is asinine. The idea that we can continue to churn up the planet with reckless abandon has to be the most fundamentally stupid thing out there today.
