AOC says Miami will not exists in a few years, if we do not do something about climate change.

Gun rack? I didn't know she liked to hunt! It's amazing how obsessed the right is with a freshman congresswoman who has no power to effect any change.
Thats just precious. The idiot leftist freshman congresswoman DOES indeed say some stupid ****...but the contenders for the presidency for the rat party ALL have taken their cues from her.

Idiot leftist says something stupid. Your response is...well...golly...we better do what she says just in case she's right.......

Yep. Let's ignore that tiny crack in that dam.

Total fiction. The only people obsessed with AOC are the maniacal right.

SHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE...

So I guess you dont follow the rat party primary.

Also even if all the world's scientists, federal agencies under Donald Trump and fossil fuel companies was wrong about the urgent need for action on climate change, you still have the great upside of getting rid of a lot of toxic pollution. That reaching the Paris Agreement could save a million lives a year globally just through reduction in air pollution.

"Meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement could save about a million lives a year worldwide by 2050 through reductions in air pollution alone. The latest estimates from leading experts also indicate that the value of health gains from climate action would be approximately double the cost of mitigation policies at global level, and the benefit-to-cost ratio is even higher in countries such as China and India."

WHO: Health Benefits Far Outweigh Costs of Meeting Paris Goals | UNFCCC
So the U.S. pulled out of the Paris Accord but the countries that stayed in are doing very little.

Oh. So, when she said that about the "12 years", she was...what?...bull****ting? If so, then is she also bull****ting about Miami?

I suppose so. Seems the left does love their hyperbole. It plays well with the useful idiots.

Ahh, so you admit you don't know the context of that particular discussion, or what that "12 years" number was a reference to. And you're mad anyway. Got it. :lamo

I know what she said. You, however, are free to spin it as you wish.

Moving on...

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez makes a stark prediction about climate change [Video]
She says that Miami will not exists, a then says we have to be realistic about these things.
My question is which is it? being realistic means Miami will be fine for many years.

I've seen aerial photos of the naval base on Boca Chica Key from the 40's:

Yesterday's Boca Chica

75 years of global warming and sea level rise. No change in that naval station. Why?

My concern about sea level rise, and the warming that causes it, is zero.

Global warming and the rise of sea levels will continue unchecked. Sure, there will be environmentalists trying to save the planet but their voices and efforts will be dismissed as liberal folly. It will happen and many will live to experience this tragedy in their lifetimes, those that are under the age of 50 anyway.

States that live in the areas that are doomed to be flooded first are the most pro-active. After the East Coast's Hurricane Sandy in 2012, the task force 'Rebuild by Design' is spending $1 billion of federal funds to house new ideas for rebuilding the lasting damage along the coastlines. New York City created a $19.5 billion climate resiliency plan and New Jersey has begun buying up the flood-prone properties and converting them to "public open space."

Frustrated by the government of Florida's aloofness to the rising sea level, South Miami wants to carve out a 51st state, where the "sea-level rise is regarded with a sense of urgency."

:lamo yet another right winger who thinks that "12 years" comment was literal.

And yet it's mentioned repeatedly and so...specific. Wonder how we didn't get the metaphor.

No you don't or else you wouldn't make the ridiculous spin yourself.

My understanding is that the parts of Miami sinking are built on reclaimed swampland and if sea rise is going to be significant Miami cannot be saved because there is no solid bedrock in which to sink the supports for sea walls. Basically, they are doomed either way.

Well then that feckin settles it Rick! As long as Boca Chica Key hasn't seen a rise in tide levels then global warming isn't happening. Clearly Boca Chica is the key (pun intended).

Doesn't seem like an idea that is good for reducing CO2 to have to stitch up a bunch of new 51 star flags just to have to switch back to 50 star flags once they sink into the ocean.

Right you are. Miami and other areas of Florida have built far beyond the ability of the infrastructure to accommodate and support the population. That cannot change unless a crapload of people leave yesterday. That, of course, isn't going to happen.

Ironically, the last time I checked, the federally subsidized National Flood Insurance Program is 25 billion dollars underwater (pun intended again), and further it isn't working as it was intended to work. The buck stops with every American not rich enough to avoid paying taxes.

I sure hope she's wrong about that.

The sea level is going to rise. There is nothing humans can do about it. It has been geologic low by hundreds of feet for the last few thousand years - compared to the prior 50 million years. The only question is how fast will it rise?

The time frame is early but Miami (at least Miami Beach) is getting flooding on normal sunny days

High Tides Cause Flooding In Several Areas Across Miami Beach – CBS Miami

Report: Sea Level Rise Triggering Miami to Flood During High Tides | Newsmax.com

The sweet smell of sewage and salt water at high tide, coming up the pipes.

Note if this was a normal event in Miami, I expect the roads and pipes would have been built at a higher level decades ago rather than just now. I doubt the idea of sewage coming up from the sewer system is something the citizens of Miami would have really liked 20 years ago or 40 for that matter

What your article does not mention is that much of Miami is built on swamp land. With ever more building, not only is more of it on swamp land other swamp land is covered with concrete. That means more run off and more water in the unpaved areas. No mystery, just poor zoning.
