Daniel Turner: Decades ago, the UN promised climate disaster; so why hasn'''t it arrived? | Fox News

Then came the mother of all doomsday scenarios: global warming. It blew away other environmental issues like candles on a cake. Deadly heat and floods. Ice caps melting. Polar bears dying. Alligators and sharks invading. TV shows. Movies. Books.

Former Vice President Al Gore warned we were all going to die from global warming.

Thirty years ago this week, the United Nations issued a global warming report that I distinctly remember. It predicted worldwide disaster.

According to the report, the Great Plains of America would return to the Dust Bowl. The oceans would rise by several feet, causing low-lying countries like the Maldive Islands and Bangladesh to be underwater.

The report said North Africa would bake into wastelands. Rainforests would be gone, as would much animal life. And it was all because of fossil fuels. American greed.

Global change has become another government income transfer scheme to enrich their buddies. Like a junkie they are so dependent on this money, they know if they let go their suffering would be immense. They would have to admit they are wrong. No one ever does that today. They won’t even say they weren’t entirely right. Nope. They just dig in and add taxes and fees to everything to support their fear industry.

Yup, plenty of fake, unproven, and overly hyperbolic news out there. The MSM must be held to task for failing to report or even fact check these alarmist stuff- its far worse than any other political issue out there. People are getting gypped, and it needs to stop.

America versus the world, what a sad deluded bubble you occupy.

So NASA and NOAA and all those universities etc. are all just part of a massive boondoggle to channel money, what you call an "income transfer scheme". That what you're saying? What is it, are those organizations worried that without a global warming scare their funding might dry up? Is that the reason for this huge, world-wide conspiracy?

In this country once a bureaucratic critical mass is reached, nothing changes its direction because size equals power. Never mind that the cause is phony. It has employees, grants, foundations, lobbyists, suppliers, vendors, brands and trademarks, and a desire to stay on the gravy train.

No.

Pundits attributed them to climate change, and meaning AGW climate change, when the climate is always changing. Naturally.

And you guys wonder why we scoff at such things when your side is always making up fables.

The climate changes naturally at a slow pace. It also changes based on human activity at a much more rapid pace. This isn't fable, it's scientifically proven and quite easy for even a layman to grasp.

It's been scientifically proven that humans are behind all the climate change in the world? Could you please show us the link that proves this wonderful discovery?

Nonsense. There is absolutely nothing wrong with our climate today in either its level or rate of change as ice cores from both poles clearly illustrate over the last few thousand years

I'd like these well financed 'experts' to explain why this major inconvenience for the whole AGW premise exists but I guess we'll never hear that because turkeys don't vote for christmas ..... ker ching !

Are they selling “Woolly Mammoth” hunting licenses in Michigan, too?

:lasucks: ~ Let us remember the old saying: "If at first you don't succeed - try, try again."
The UN must maintain relevance. What better way than to create urgency ?
Many of us have gone from being skeptical to becoming suspicious about all of this.

There are several natural climate cycles, we have witnesses many over out history. Some of these slow pace cycles are just a few decades long.

It rained the night of the 4th of July fireworks display here.

Damn climate change. Until just a few decades ago it never rained in Florida.

LOL...

It rains an average of half the days in Florida, in July, with average rainfalls depending on area of 3.6" to 9.2" for the month.

LOL...

Climate disaster is here. Just not in North America or Europe yet. Go spend the summer in central Africa or northwest India, and report back (if you can).

How is over population for a region and people not replenishing their own natural resources as the use them the fault of climate change?

Then what is the problem that that hasn't happened before?

The points you mentioned are indeed problems in one of the areas I had mentioned...though I imagine we might differ on how we account for the details. However, they’re not relevant to the present discussion. What is relevant is that extreme heat and extreme drought are occurring in those areas. They’re becoming unlivable.

We have no greater extreme heats and no smaller precipitation rates, than in past times of extremes. The difference is, we have more people!

The population increase for the same resources is why they are becoming unlivable.

All of which amounts to climate disaster. Disasters are, after all, relative. Presumably you think that widespread nuclear war would be a disaster. Cockroaches apparently wouldn’t. If no one was living in India, rising heat there wouldn’t be a disaster for humans. But lots of people do live there now, and parts of India are becoming unlivable; more will join suit soon. That’s a climate disaster.

Avoiding the point a bit! any given piece of land has a sustainable carrying capacity.
If you put more people, on the land than it has resources to support, there will be a man made disaster,
but it will have nothing to do with the climate.

Quite the contrary—I think he (and you) are avoiding my point. India’s Carey capacity is changing, underneath the usual population changes.
