At the halfway point, and despite La Niña conditions, it looks like this year is headed into the record books as a top 5 year, based on projections from Gavin Schmidt, Head of GISS at NASA.

Just another datapoint to show that Hansen’s predictions (Schmidt’s predecessor) from three decades ago seem to be holding up well.

I realize the anonymous posters here have a much, much better handle on how to measure global temperature than the guy who actually, you know, does it for a living for NASA, but I thought I’d share this anyway.

Yes, cooling continues from the 2016 high temperature. 2018 will be cooler than 2017, which was cooler than 2016.
I suspect that in 2019 we'll be told that 2019 will be among the ten or so hottest years. This will continue until even the AGW advocates are embarrassed -- perhaps when the headline reads: "2025 Among the Fifty Hottest Years!":lamo

Speaking of embarrassing, cooling, ROTFMAO!

The is good data and there is bad data, you have the later.

I don't think anyone disputes that 2018 will be cooler than 2017, which was cooler than 2016. "Top 5" is just a PR formulation to get the word "hottest" into a headline.

Someone here is unaware of the concept of moving averages in the face of chaotic data.

Cooling is cooling. I look forward to more tortured PR formulations in coming years as AGW advocates struggle to sustain a warming narrative in the face of cooling temperatures.

LOL...

Reminds me of the sexists who said Danica didn't belong in racing because she never won a championship, although she would place top 5...

It's truly hilarious how some here concentrate on the 3 last dots of the graph, missing the forest for the trees... Why don't you look at the last 50 years?
