"Since climate change is a giant liberal conspiracy, this iceberg does not exist," says every climate change denier ever.

Hmmm...Maybe I should consider selling my house on the Cape sooner than I'd planned.....

Move to some place high up, like Denver or Aspen.

I have been thinking of a high cliff on the Maine coast. That's been my plan anyway. While I may shift my timeframe, I won't choose a different rough location. I still want to be by the ocean...just in a place where sea level rise or big waves are a real concern.

Not sure why this is anything to do with cliamte change.

Such ice burgs break off the ice shelves and laciers as they flow into the sea. This is a big one. And?

Or buy a shovel. The max projected sea level rise in the next 30 years should be easy to counter by creating a 1 foot high sea defence around your house.

But if you brought a house in the Cape who was it that said that was a 100% safe thing to do?

Cliffs of Moher. Beautiful isn't it.

Yes, it is.

Yes, they are, but I was just trying to convey a concept -- that of being well above the water and having a cliff wall, not a beach, between me and the ocean -- not convey that pictured locale is where I would put a house.

1. I'm not going to build a "sea wall."
2. I had nothing to do with the acquisition of the house.

Oh it's all good, I did understand the concept you were trying to convey. Makes sense. I was just commenting on the picture, it's really beautiful along there.

1, If you are unable to do the large amount of work necessary to maintain a coastal house perhaps you should sell it.

2, You will get a lot of money for it as living on the beach is very popular.

Seriously? Do you think you're being helpful?

Let me set you straight.
  • You are not being helpful.
  • You are being presumptuous.
    • What on Earth made you think I need or want the input of a total stranger from the Internet about how to manage my affairs regarding the disposition, maintenance, etc. of a beach property I own?

The point of my initial remark isn't something I'm going to explain and it elided your notice. It's fine that it did because (a) that you didn't "get it" informs me that you aren't among the target audience for the post, and (b) the post isn't particularly consequential anyway, nor was it meant to be, which is why I'm not going to explain it.

What makes you think that the wider world needs or wants the input of somebody who has not looked at the numbers for sea level rise and considereed if they are actually a problem?

...Are so again is illustrated my earlier observation (blue text).....

Tsk tsk. You're the one who introduced the subject in #3.

This isn't about climate change. It's about an iceberg that drifted pretty damn close to a town.

Those things can be dangerous.

Heh. Then you just get flash floods and intense electrical storms and lots of snow instead.

No matter where you live, there is some problem with it!

You have to be careful even in a place like this. Erosion is the problem. Your house falls into the sea.
