Apropos the topic of identity politics intersecting with science, which some of the jackdaws around here had to bring up:

Almost all climate scientists are white, and people of color are excluded from climate science in a number of ways.

White supremacy? Perhaps. They run people in Africa off of their ancestral lands that have been bought to be set aside as carbon sinks by wealthy whites. Their environmental concerns are mostly about the concerns of white and wealthy people. So, yeah.

But maybe people of color in general just have bigger fish to fry.

Are you saying that White Men Can't Fish?

It’s nice that you’ve noticed this and are concerned about the racial disparity in the sciences- I have to say, I’m a bit surprised given your posting history on these issues.

I doubt if climate or earth sciences have any less minority representation than other fields of science, but clearly, overall, the underrepresentation of minorities is a good thing to oppose and fix.

I’m sure you are overwhelmingly in favor of the small measures already taken to increase minority representation in education, like affirmative action and specific outreach and education on careers in science to young minority students.

You might be interested to know there are specific organizations that are trying to change this disparity.

I’m sure they would be happy to take a monetary donation from you to perpetuate their work, seeing how strongly you feel about the issue.

White men can indeed fish. Actually catching something is another matter. This is what precipitated the use of explosives in "fishing".

Ah. As it was termed where I grew up: "the DuPont spinner."
