Antarctic thaw quickens, trillions of tonnes of ice raise sea levels

The only one being disingenuous is you. Here's the title of the research paper linked in the WUWT post. Pretty straightforward. (Please see #314 foe details.):

Ultralow Surface Temperatures in East Antarctica From Satellite Thermal Infrared Mapping: The Coldest Places on Earth

There was no recorded temperature of -144. True or false?

I have no idea, and it doesn't matter. From the research summary: ". . . Comparisons with nearby automated weather stations suggest that air temperatures during these events are near −94 ± 4 °C or about −138 F. . . ."

So, then why can't you admit your WUWT tricked you with a shiny object in the headline?

No temps "plunged." All that happened was that scientists updated their theoretical global low. A true nothingburger.

I was trying not to embarrass you. There is in the posted WUWT article another link to a previous article that sets the context and explains the research background (and covers the -144 temperature too). Here's that link.

Wow, that might be approaching some physical boundaries.
I was trying to imagine what happens when the temperature drops to the point where it starts
condensing out normal atmospheric gasses, like CO2 (-109 degrees Fahrenheit) the sublimed gasses
would lower the pressure and cause movement in the direction of the sublimation.
The additional molecules would likely cause some (very minor) compression warming.
the would oscillate about that point, until all the condensates at that temperature were removed.
Like the reverse of a boiling pot of water staying at 100 C until all the water is gone.

Yes, the Antarctic is even colder than people thought. But that doesn't mean it's colder than it was before!

No one said it was.

Your articles were selling something you are not delivering--plunging temps.

Learning that something is does not define that something became.

The misunderstanding is yours alone.

"Antarctic temperatures recently plunged close to the theoretically coldest achievable on Earth!"

Yes but give the very low amount of CO2 in air there would not be enough CO2 snow to warrant anything. The summer would very quickly boil it away as well and don't forget that compared to water the latent heat involved is tiny.

I was down at the local Gulf beach twice yesterday. The second time, only 5 hours later the water was 2 feet higher! That's over 20 feet a day!!! At this rate nearly every city in the USA is going to be underwater by the end of the day tomorrow.

True enough, I was thinking of just the sublimation phase, as CO2 condensed out, and created a partial vacuum.

Yeah, tiny in any scale.

If Nitrogen started to liquify then panic but that is a long way off.

I think we have just defined the theoretical low in terms of denier blog acceptance.

WUWT is a great site, indispensable, in fact.

:lamo

I say that about the Onion. But, at least they admit that they are full of ****.

I am having a hard time deciding if Jack is serious or if he has a very odd, but consistent sense of humor.
