(UPI) -- A coalition of 17 states and the District of Columbia sued the Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday over Trump administration efforts to roll back Obama-era fuel efficiency standards. The move comes one month after EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt announced plans to revise standards for cars and light trucks. Just before he left office, former President Barack Obama's administration increased the mandatory fuel economy for all domestic vehicles to an average of 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025. Pruitt called the Obama administration's move politically motivated. But California and 16 other states disagree with the Trump administration. They sued the EPA to preserve the country's single-vehicle emission standard Tuesday. "Enough is enough. We're not looking to pick a fight with the Trump Administration, but when the stakes are this high for our families' health and our economic prosperity, we have a responsibility to do what is necessary to defend them," he said at a news conference announcing the lawsuit.

"The states joining today's lawsuit represent 140 million people who simply want cleaner and more efficient cars," California Gov. Jerry Brown added. "This phalanx of states will defend the nation's clean car standards to boost gas mileage and curb toxic air pollution." Joining California in the lawsuit, which was filed in the District of Columbia, are Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia. "Trump's plan to reverse tailpipe pollution standards is a gift to the auto industry that will be paid for with our health," he said in an email to UPI. "As the federal government blows off its most basic duty to protect the American people, we applaud these states for taking up the fight."

Bravo. It's time for Americans to stand up and end the Trump/Pruitt assault on our environment.

Judges at this point need to watch their P's and their Q's least they lose even more of their esteem with the people, the only capital they have.

Then pass your own state standards.

Of course, the purpose of this is not clean air, but to grandstand and posture.

My state has standards. It's suing fossil-fuel industry-puppet Pruitt to maintain them.

Like it or not, Pruitt is correct......
Pruitt telegraphed a challenge to California's special status in April, saying federalism "doesn't mean that one state can dictate standards for the rest of the country.

In his final determination last month, Pruitt said the Obama administration cut short an evaluation period meant to assess whether the nation's automakers could realistically achieve the EPA's previously established standards. The Obama EPA determined the standards were achievable, but Pruitt concluded that determination was wrong.

The so-called corporate average fuel economy, or CAFE standards, were set to roughly double from 2010 levels to about 50 miles per gallon.

Exactly!

California is at least transparent about their goals. They want to eliminate fossil fueled cars. That is the agenda behind stupid high mileage goals. At the end of the day it is about BTU’s. Galoline brings it. But the comes a point at which the cost per additional mile is prohibitive. And this is the goal over which the global change folks don’t know they are a part of:

Using technology to price citizens out of their transportation choices.

Transportation off of the assaigned trail is freedom. Stopping for 6 hours to solar charge your battery when you are out camping is a non starter.

According to my math, 33 states didnt join. But if you want higher efficiency standards, buy cars that good fuel mileage. But I understand, Its never enough for liberals to leave such matters up to individual choice. You want to use the power of the state to enforce your demands. And when that doesnt work, you want to use the courts to enforce your demands. Typical liberal bullying tactics.

They love their authoritarianism...

[h=1]Study: Climate skeptics engage in more eco-friendly behavior than climate alarmists[/h]By Dave Huber, The College Fix A new study suggests those skeptical about climate change and climate alarmism behave in more climate-friendly ways than do those who are very concerned about the issue. University of Michigan psychology graduate student Michael Hall‘s study looked at 600 Americans who “regularly reported their climate change beliefs, pro-environmental behavior, and other…

If those standards were economically feasible, market desired and reliable, there wouldn't be a need for people like you to dictate to others what they drive.

[h=1]California to force new home owners to buy solar panels[/h]Listen up comrade! You WILL buy solar panels whether you like it or not. As if housing in California isn’t already overpriced and out-of-reach enough, now there’s this hare-brained scheme. From the LA Times: California heads toward requiring solar panels on all new houses California is set to become the first state to require solar…

But Trump has to make sure the oil and gas companies squeeze as much money out of this country as possible. Can't have cars that are fuel efficient

Their profit margin is smaller than McDonalds, maybe we should beat them up too......., for being too successful in meeting the demands of their customers.

Trying to shove YOUR ideology down peoples throats will create the inevitable backlash, people want to haul heavy stuff and go camping, boating and so on, they pay for it too.

Oil Companies are NOT in the top ten in profits, so why pick on them when you can attacks these companies instead................., who have the GALL to make a large profit, more than "evil" oil companies.

Go take your hate of capitalism to socialist paradise Venezuela, or Mexico, or Haiti, or Puerto Rico, or...............

Sure you can comrade. It's just that only 1% of the population would want them. The rest of the 99% of us would be forced to buy a car we didn't want.

If you like dictatorial policies, then you are fine with the authoritarianism of the Obama administration.

I think the Solar mandate may have much better value than reducing CO2.
If the solar system added $12 K to the cost of the home, that is an increase of $59 per month in the payment,
or at the average California electricity rate of $.179 per Kwh, 329 Kwh per month.
Most homes will use more than that, and so the added cost may be completely covered by the panels,
in most months. In addition the economies of scale could lower the install cost.
The now will be required to address the problem with net metering.
