How much were todays smart phones or flat screen TVs in 2011? oh, they were not available, or very expensive.I don't think you understand. Even RCP 6 will still see us reaching 4°C at some point in the future. In fact, any scenario that has CO2 concentrations continuing to rise will see us reach 4°C in the end.
Also, your claim that other technology can fill in for oil once it gets above about $90 a barrel is wildly optimistic. We had an oil price above $90 a barrel for about 4 years from the start of 2011, and oil wasn't replaced. Not to mention the fact that you need to replace coal too.
Technology marches on!
If you read much history, you would understand that coal will die the way it started, very close to the mines.
Coal has a long logistical tail, which will limit it's use to plants close to mines.
CO2 emissions are falling in the US, without a lot of effort. If our transport becomes carbon neutral,
US emissions will be lower than most 1st world countries.
When we demonstrate that people can retain the same lifestyle they have become accustomed to
using carbon neutral hydrocarbon fuels, that cost less than fuels from oil, we will not be able to stop the wave.
It will likely upset the liberals, but the Exxons and Shells of the world will make out like bandits.
They have the infrastructure in place to capitalize on carbon neutral fuels.
Soon after the growth in CO2 levels stops, all that greening caused from the extra CO2, will start dropping the levels.
Once we have the ability to store and accumulate, the unreliable alternative energy sources,
we will no longer have an energy problem, or any issue with CO2.
