Coal Burning Gas Guzzling Germany

[h=1]CO2 Emissions Surge: Greens “Disappointed” by Economic Growth[/h]Guest essay by Eric Worrall The Financial Times is disappointed that hitting the Paris targets is looking even less likely, thanks to economic growth driving a rise in CO2 emissions. China recovery pushes greenhouse emissions to global record NOVEMBER 13, 2017 Tobias Buck in Berlin and Lucy Hornby in Beijing Paris targets under threat as…

Greetings, Jack. :2wave:

I wish I could muster up at least a small modicum of sympathy for the Greens...but I cant! I keep recalling an article I read recently about Algore and a few others' successes in already making millions of dollars on AGW, and they're upset that even though the Paris Accord targets are being met, they now state that the targets were too low? :bs

Emissions in the US may be falling, but they still have a long way to go to catch up with Germany:

US CO2 emissions per capita: 16.5 tonnes
German CO2 emissions per capita: 8.9 tonnes

Also, implementation of the Paris accord only begins in 2020. Hopefully the US will have a sane president by then.

Much of that is average transportation distances, due to population density differences.

The US has room to improve and are doing so, We have a sane president as evidenced by not agreeing to the Paris accord.

Your usual BS. In fact, there is virtually no correlation between population density and CO2 emissions per capita:

Linear Regression Population vs. CO2 Emissions in 176 Countries in 2001

LOL...

What do you think I mean by "much?"

Mixing all 176 countries that have CO2 assessments is crazy. Similar economic developed counties will have a stronger correlation to transportation distances, based on density. Mixing 3rd and 1st world countries hides such a signal.

Are you being intellectually dishonest, or royally ignorant?

A 2015 survey using 2001 data? Her premise was wrong also regarding China and the USA.

A larger reason than the density of Germany is that their energy has always been so expensive, people use less of it because they cant afford much of it.

DM 1.01 per liter gasoline tax when I was there. It is now €0.6545 per liter ($2.95/gal) plus a 19% VAT.

Electricity is 29.69 euro cents per kWh. That's over 35 cents per kWh!

How much gasoline would we use if we paid over $3.00/gal in tax alone?

In the article linked below the author bemoans the fact that Germany is emitting more CO2 than ever despite its pronouncements about the climate.

But It’s not so much hypocrisy on Germany’s part as a lack of a good strategy.

Experts told them that they could go all renewable energy, but it did’t work. They were forced to build more coal plants to avoid blackouts, returning to nuclear being politically impossible.

That makes 4 nations that have failed in efforts to go full renewable; Germany, Japan, Spain, and Australia. And Japan is also building more coal plants.http://http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/11/13/germany-is-a-coal-burning-gas-guzzling-climate-change-hypocrite/

Why isnt everyone in Germany installing solar panels on their roofs? I saw a story about a bunch of people singing a anti coal song (to the theme of God Bless the USA) yesterday at a climate conference in Germany. With such popular support you would think they would all be converting the country to solar on their own. Or are they waiting on govt to do it?

Have you ever been to Germany? We lived in Berlin for three years. I described it as "London without all the sunshine." Solar is not a realistic option for Germany.

Why the lies, Jack?

Average Sunshine a Year at Cities in Europe

Berlin, Germany: 1625 hours
London, United Kingdom: 1410 hours

For those of you who are humor-challenged, the point of the remark was not to make an actual meteorological comparison, but to emphasize how much cloudy weather we had. London being known to more people than Berlin, and being famous for overcast days and fog, the line worked and nearly always drew a laugh while making my point. Neither London nor Berlin is a suitable solar power location.

Fun fact: In Berlin a clear day is still referred to as Bomberwetter because during WW2 sunshine brought the B-17's and B-24's of the 8th Air Force.

And now, in the immortal words of Sgt. Hulka: "Lighten up, Francis."

Solar power in Germany

"Solar power in Germany consists almost exclusively of photovoltaics (PV) and accounted for an estimated 6.2 to 6.9 percent of the country's net-electricity generation in 2016. About 1.5 million photovoltaic systems were installed around the country in 2014, ranging from small rooftop systems, to medium commercial and large utility-scale solar parks."

So in the weird and wacky world of Jack Hays, lying = joking. I see. Are any of your posts meant to be taken seriously?

Ok fine, windmills on every roof then. Point is, why are they protesting coal producers instead of their fellow citizens and themselves for using too much power, and not generating their own power?

Enough. There was no lie. You're trying my patience.

You lie all the time, you lying sack of s**t. For some reason you and other assh***s of your ilk seem to have made it your mission to do as much as you can to make life as difficult as possible for our descendants. You deserve to rot in hell for your selfishness.

Right, so why are they protesting then? Get out there and put more up. Why sit around waiting on the govt?

What makes you think they're not? Solar panels on roofs are widespread in Germany. Don't listen to Jack's lies.

Edit: Unlike solar PV, windmills are not economical on small scales.

No one thinks he uses too much power.

Ah. A zealot. Our descendants will do just fine if we can save them from your obsolete science. After the tottering AGW paradigm has been supplanted by the solar/GCR climate paradigm you will be ashamed of yourself. Please see Thomas Kuhn, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions.

Solar panels on German rooftops are like second marriages: triumphs of hope over experience.

Because they still need coal to provide power. If they really want to get rid of coal they need to stop protesting it, sitting around waiting on govt to do everything for them, and go out and pave the world with solar panels or windmills.

So in the weird and wacky world of Jack Hays, lying = joking. I see. Are any of your posts meant to be taken seriously?

So, you actually think someone looked up the weather stats for London and Berlin and said to himself, "I think I'll lie about that fact that Berlin actually has more sunny days than London."

Al Franken needs you on his staff. He's going to need writers who can make sh** up and slander people with it.

It wouldn't matter if they did. There will be significant stretches of days where the sun won't shine and the wind won't blow anywhere in Germany, and that will lead to blackouts if there are no coal plants to back the renewables up. In fact, for every kW produced by renewables a kW of coal capacity has to be available to back it up. And in order to be available at a moment's notice the coal plants have to remain fired up all the time. That means there is very little in the way of actual reduction of emissions.
