Climate change not as threatening to planet as previously thought, new research suggests

climate change poses less of an immediate threat to the planet than previously thought because scientists got their modelling wrong, a new study has found. New research by British scientists reveals the world is being polluted and warming up less quickly than 10-year-old forecasts predicted, giving countries more time to get a grip on their carbon output. An unexpected “revolution” in affordable renewable energy has also contributed to the more positive outlook.
Experts now say there is a two-in-three chance of keeping global temperatures within 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels, the ultimate goal of the 2015 Paris Agreement.
Hopefully this is the start of dialing back the stupid "MUST ACT NOW" Rhetoric... So unproductive.

The way I read that, there's a new bit of research which suggests we might not be as screwed as they thought.

They're basically saying "there's a 33% change we're ****ed, and a 66% chance we're not".

The interesting part is how they mention a rise in affordable renewable energy solutions as part of the reason we're less likely to be ****ed.
More of that sort of thing is needed.

Hello Renae, The Mark was on it as regards my response I had planned, so let me just say ditto to that and ponder a second...

Actually, many countries have taken the must act now rhetoric and done something about it, which has had some positive effect...unfortunately so many in America buy into denial propaganda and ostrichize themselves from reality...this is nothing new...we are #1...screw'em

Our country is on a record setting path for one of the shorter lived worldly dominating powers over the history of mankind...Trump promoting America's interest over the rest of the world...don't recall the exact words but he expressed we'd take care of it ourselves like we always do...doesn't matter the topic (I think it had to do with NK) when it is said to a bunch of world leaders...not a good way to win friends and influence enemies but we don't give a damn, now do we?

That's right, we're bad.

Do you have any idea what would happen to the USA if the rest of the world said screw'em to the US and decided to shift the oil market from trading in US Petro Dollars...granted Iran and China don't need them...there are other examples as well...take Saddam who tried to cut a deal to trade in Euro's...we can't have that now, can we?

Pay more attention to the facts rather than the political arguments and a better understanding may come about and if the concept of "MUST ACT NOW" becomes "must act now", that's a start.

Whether we must act now or later begs the question of whether anything we can do will make any difference. Nothing politically or financially feasible proposed so far and nothing that is being done will, according to AGW theories, have any detectable effect on the climate. So there is no point in trying to mitigate global warming. We should be prepared to adapt to it if it happens. Even the most rabid of the AGW proponents admit that it will take a long time to develop, so we have plenty of time.
