Stupid is as stupid does.

The state of Florida is the region most susceptible to the effects of global warming in this country, according to scientists. Sea-level rise alone threatens 30 percent of the state’s beaches over the next 85 years.

But you would not know that by talking to officials at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the state agency on the front lines of studying and planning for these changes.

DEP officials have been ordered not to use the term “climate change” or “global warming” in any official communications, emails, or reports, according to former DEP employees, consultants, volunteers and records obtained by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting.

In Florida, officials ban term 'climate change' | Miami Herald

You can tell the GOP is terrified of science when they have to ban it with the force of law. Totally shameful.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Does anyone else think that everytime we have a weather event people want to make it a political event and claim "climate change". The last time a storm this bad hit Florida was in the 60's I am told.

This is not an argument for or against climate change. It is an argument against poorly thought out partisan B.S. that is so prevalent on this site.

Stupid is as stupid does.

There is nothing the state of Florida can do to prevent what Mother Nature may have in store for Florida beaches. When they see clear evidence effecting THEM, I have no doubt they will take action. In the meantime, let's not beat them over the head for their choice.

So I guess that means liberals are terrified of Islamic extremism since Obama banned its use too, right?

Partisan BS comes with the territory. People with strong opinions will be attracted to a site where they can express them and argue with the other side. I especially enjoy being told how hateful liberals are. How we're plotting to commit genocide on white people and other fun projects. I treasure absurdity.

The flooding problems in Florida exist even when a Cat 5 hurricane isn't barreling in.

The impact is already being felt in South Florida. Tidal flooding now predictably drenches inland streets, even when the sun is out, thanks to the region’s porous limestone bedrock. Saltwater is creeping into the drinking water supply. The area’s drainage canals rely on gravity; as oceans rise, the water utility has had to install giant pumps to push water out to the ocean...

“The next black swan is the failure of housing finance to take climate change into account,” he said. “There will be a large number of homes that will lose substantial value, and will default on mortgages, if nothing is done to help them.”

And, here is why no one in an official capacity is allowed to mention climate change in Florida.

The National Flood Insurance Program is up for reauthorization this year; fiscal conservatives have said they want to use that opportunity to reduce the program’s subsidies, so that people are paying something closer to the full cost of their risk.
A cut in federal subsidies would particularly hurt Florida, which despite its exposure pays the lowest average flood-insurance premiums in the country, according to FEMA data.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Banning climate change doesn't seem to be doing them much good. Maybe they should focus on the more immediate problem and ban hurricanes instead. Probably too late to have much effect on the current crop, but I'm sure it would make future storms think twice about messing with Florida.

They certainly are in control of where they build. And, build they do...all along the coast.

With what seems like 6 to 7 highrises shooting up near the water — on every street in Miami and many other Florida towns — developers continue to spend a lot of money (and ruin the skyscape). So, come the next massive storm surge, will the state and country spend a lot of money bailing everyone out? Probably, and that means taxpayers. But for how long? What is the purpose of this mind-boggling house of cards on sand?

...The bubble will crash, and there may not be a bouncing back next time. As Admiral David Titley, Former Chief Engineer for the US Navy, describes, “the ice did not get the memo to stop melting in the year 2100.”

Yep, they should be busy building a huge, fantastic and incredible wall (dike?) or at least many more lanes of evacuation roadways. ;)

Common sense stuff: Build elevated buildings, elevated roads, sea walls, and leave barrier islands, floodplains and swampland free from development. In other words, do everything that Americans do not do.

Don't be a party poop.

Islamic extremism should be banned! Do you really think they should be allowed to kill all of those people? Obviously Obama didn't make a law outlawing the words like these Floridians did, so you must mean that you want terrorism legal.

Stupid is as stupid does.

Let's see how expensive it is. But even in bad cases and assuming that this were androgenic climate change driven Lomborg was still probably right. That is why the climate change folks are so hesitant in producing cost benefit analysis of forced immediate co2 reduction vs research into technology.
So ghoulish glee and gloating is besides being tasteless probably a sign of misunderstood socioeconomics.

Where do you see glee? Pointing to stupidity is just pointing to stupidity.

You were "told" wrong.

Ironic is seeing someone this misinformed lecturing about BS.

You know whats worse than Florida banning pro-AGW terminology in official communiques ?

The Left exploiting natural disasters and the destruction and suffering they cause to push their hack climate change agenda

Floridians didn't 'make a law' either. Obama banned the use of the phrase within his administration--exactly what it seems they did in Florida.

You think Im stupid ? Why ? Because I challenged your propaganda ?

You reaize Forida's been hit by Huricanes before, right ? Yep, the last Cat 5 to hit Florida was Andrew in the early 90s. They were also hit by huge storms in 1935 and 1949

And Texas has been hit by Hurricanes before too.
Rita was a Cat 5 storm with wind speeds higher than Irma's. Alicia was a Cat 4 and the 1900 Galveston storm was a Cat 4 storm that killed everyone on the Island

Seeing how you seem to take the pro-AGW propaganda at face value and are a easy mark for this kind of chicken little nonsense,I would hold off calling anyone stupid if I were you

There are flooding issues in Florida other than hurricanes. As was pointed out in post 7.

Climate change..........lol ( a hurricane ) created Willoughby Spit) right here where I live.

Long before the freaking retards invented "Global Warming"............. a hurricane in 1749 rose the bay level by 15' and the wash created Willoughby Spit, which is part of what is called Norfolk Virginia now. It grew even larger with the hurricane of 1802.BW-113 32179-1 Willoughby Spit April 3 1970LG.jpg
