I take free online courses in various subjects for fun. I know that's weird, I don't care I like learning. But anyway, I was scrolling through edx.org course catalog and found this gem offered by the University of British Colombia and thought I would share it.

Yes it is free, if you don't go for the completion certificate. Just select the audit course option. I'm aware some of you already consider yourselves experts on this subject, and are going to immediately criticize everything about it. This isn't for you, go spout your crazy somewhere else. This is for people that don't consider themselves the be all end all expert, and want definitive information on how climatologists come to their conclusions. And for people who wish to interact with climate scientists. Here is the course description.

About this course
Do you want to talk about climate change from an informed perspective? Are you interested in how global warming works? Climate change is the biggest challenge of our time, and climate science is critical to finding solutions. How can we make the best decisions about our present and future? By taking this course, you can be part of the global conversation.

Climate Change: The Science is an introduction to climate science basics. We’ll discuss flows of energy and carbon in Earth’s climate system, how climate models work, climate history, and future forecasts.

This course will give you the knowledge you need, and practice communicating about climate change. You’ll meet people from around the world with a huge range of local and regional climate change issues. Join us, learn the science, and share your own stories.

What you'll learn
How to explain climate science basics to anyone
How to evaluate scientific evidence about climate change and global warming
Earth’s possible climate futures, including the role of human choices
How to communicate about climate change issues in your region

Feel free to use this thread if you take this course to discuss what you learn. Find a study partner. Or debate the merits of the course after you've taken it. What this thread is not for, is debating the legitimacy of climate change. Take that elsewhere.

Also check out https://www.edx.org/course/modeling-climate-change-uchicagox-ps280x#! from University of Chicago, for an introduction into Modeling Climate Change.

Ok - give me the science on climate change.

First off , What is the definition of climate ?

Next, what is the baseline so we can objectively measure the change? ( OF course we know stasis is not possible so climate is changing every millisecond by some degree).

Next, what are the exact longitude and longitude and measurable attributes of a climate?

I might add to that in that, what is this 'ideal' climate supposed to be and why is todays somehow all wrong because without a target to aim for this whole AGW hypothesis is (if you'll pardon the pun) just so much hot air

This difficulty you guys have with reading fairly basic English sentences might help explain your ideological positions

I must say you have peaked my interest. I signed up to take the course and I like that it goes at my own pace and I would like to discuss it but it will be a slow pace because between school for my certificate taking care of my spouse and the odd jobs I do to bring in some income I have little free time. It may be a month or two. It would be good to have a little education on this.

Stay tuned

Oh, well, I see you want to ban dissenting views. Typical.

Since you don't have the authority to do that I'll point out that about the worst place to learn about climate change is from an official climate scientist. I recommend first going to a statistician and ask that person's opinion of the statistical treatment of climate data. Then go to an expert in forecasting and ask them if it's realistic to use re-iterative models to predict the climate for 100 years into the future.

OK, I won't discuss the legitimacy of climate change but I will discuss the legitimacy of the course.

I stopped considering my enrollment when I read that fact free assertion in the course description above.

Nuclear war (N Korea) and Islamic aggression & terrorism (ISIS) are greater threats than a warmer world.
