We may have even less time to stop global warming than we thought

https://www.yahoo.com/news/m/c0080c...54004f0/ss_we-may-have-even-less-time-to.html

VERY SCARY STUFF!!!

I urge everybody to stop using their air conditioners. NOW

Ya, so very predictable that we get told that the experts dont understand the situation. Which is one of the big reasons we should know that we should be concentrating on plans to adjust our lives to whatever happens instead of trying to stop change......something that humans mostly learned thousands of years ago I think but we aint too bright.

I will continue to use two air conditioners on full speed. Just like I've always done!

This is actually the Plan to save the planet, we are going to go on an extreme energy diet and give up a lot of the comforts of modern life...TO SAVE THE PLANET!

Hilariously ignorant of human nature, as well of the decline of civilization.

The mobs will never tolerate that.

Jerry Brown is on the job. California will save the planet.

Chris Mooney of WAPO previously of Mother Jones (you could've stopped there) knows nothing about climate change, approaches it as a purely political wedge issue (which it is but shouldn't be) and depends on his readers to feel the same way. When he's lucky he'll find someone who'll scare easily.

There is still plenty of time to scare people into paying more taxes and giving up more freedoms.
It is not like Y2K, which had a shelve life.
If the warming does not materialize, it has just been delayed by the complexity of
the system, which is beyond comprehension, by us mere mortals.

Where exactly is the beef? There is nothing really new there at all. We know that many scientists believe that the climate is heating up and that they think that it might be dangerous to let it continue. This has been being said for over 20 years. At the same time there has been a continuous demand that we switch to new technologies. The thing has been that those technologies were highly inefficient and would have caused reductions in spending elsewhere and that in consequence would for instance have caused much more poverty and death, than we have had among the poor. Lomborg for one pointed this out. It was much better to delay investments in plant and research till technologies were ready. This approach has been the best solution as far as we can tell, as alternative energies and battery technologies are on the verge of general efficiency and are already viable under certain circumstances. The same seems to be occurring with co2 retrieval. Why is this scary?

Wanna know why air conditioning is evil? Because ever since it was perfected, millions of Americans moved to places where there's no fresh water. Me, I wouldn't camp overnight where there's no water but all those people, lots of whom are wealthy and pampered and used to the government seeing that their needs are met, all those people who like their lawns and golf courses and swimming pools, are having to have water piped to where they want to live. The Ogallala Aquifer is being depleted at a steadily accelerating rate and the Colorado River is bone dry, not a drop of water in it, where it used to cross the border into Mexico. Next thing you know the Corps of Engineers will be trying to drain Lake Superior down the Mississippi River to deliver water to all those dry, hot places where wealthy people like to live.
That's why air conditioning is evil.

As a resident of Houston I say Give Me Air Conditioning or Give Me Death! Preferably air conditioning.
My Hurricane kit has both a generator and small air conditioners,
I hope to never spend another summer week without AC.

Hmmm. It was a little warm in the house (72) I turned the ac down to 69 so I could read the article in comfort . Yawn, boring.... Nothing new here.

Well you shoud be ashamed of yourself. Leo Dicrapio, BArakc Obama , Hillary Clinton , Bernie Sanders and AL gore are all gutting it out this summer and not turning it on this summer in support of the cause!

I'm struggling to figure who these wealthy people are who want to live in dry places. Seems to me they want to live on the coasts or on the water somewhere, which is why that sort of property is so expensive. The people who would really be hurt by the sort of energy restriction program that would limit air conditioning are, of course, poor people, which is the kind of person you find living over the Ogallala Aquifer, where I don't think a single really wealthy person lives.

The Ogallala aquifer is being depleted to irrigate crops. The water from the Colorado river is also being drawn off to irrigate crops; any water that makes it to Mexico would be a waste. Farmers lived on the plains to grow crops before AC existed, but they have not always had the kind of irrigation that makes California's Imperial Valley so productive. The rate of use of Ogallala water can't continue, which is why farmers in that region are adopting ways of growing crops with less water.

The fact of the matter is that we can achieve climate change targets, without sacrificing creature comforts. We can all still get obese, sit in our air conditioning, watch TV, and pound away on our computers. Just install these:
