MELBOURNE, Australia — Former Vice President Al Gore likened the battle against “global warming” to previous social causes. Gore spoke to the EcoCity World Summit in Melbourne Australia on July 13th. The conference is being held from July 12-14.“The abolition of slavery, woman’s suffrage and women’s rights, the civil rights movement and the anti apartheid movement in South Africa, the movement to stop the toxic phase of nuclear arms race and more recently the gay rights movement,” Gore said. “All these movements have one thing in common. they were all met with ferocious resistance,” Gore said on July 13th during his talk to the conference in Melbourne. (Full Transcript of Al Gore’s Speech to Australian Climate Summit)
Gore sang the praises of fossil fuels during his speech. “Must we change? We have had tremendous benefits from our reliance on fossil fuels. Poverty has declined, living standards have increased and we still depend on them for more than 80% of world’s energy,” Gore opened his talk stating. But then he again added, “Must we change?”
Gore’s answer was yes — we must change and he spent the remainder of his talk on showing the alleged negative impacts of carbon dioxide’s impact on the climate. Gore’s talk featured bad weather stills and videos from around the world from floods to typhoons to heat waves and wild fires and blamed them on rising CO2 emissions from fossil fuels. (Climate Depot Note: Blaming extreme weather on “climate change” is not supported by evidence.)

algore, proving everyday the AGW movement is political, not scientific.

The questions of power generation are almost moot with costs of wind and solar almost as low as co2 based energy. The big one will be agriculture. It will be politically difficult to take meat away from the poor and middle classes for politicians.
Also it is unclear how easily batteries or solar panels can be treated after their economic lives and how to find the necessary supplies for mass production Indefinitely.

The problem is scientific. The solution is political, since we have a pretty concerted effort to deny the problem.

The problem is political.

I'm not sure what he said that was factually incorrect. He said they have one thing in common, that they were met with ferocious resistance. What claim are you making? That this isn't the case for slavery, gay rights, apartheid, climate change, heliocentrism, and so on? Just spend some time on DP and you'll see how irrational and ferocious science deniers can be.

Politics, the real power behind the AGW groupthink.

So you're saying virtually every scientist in climate, environment, and biological sciences on the entire planet are pretty much all political hacks with no science to back it up? They're all in on the political ploy to stick it to conservatives and make themselves rich? How did you get that from Gore's statement? I don't see anything false about anything said.

Don't mistake your reason for opposing science (politics) with the motivation of actual scientists.

It's the same human flaw that allowed the Eugenics movement to take off, to create laws, to have top scientist and leading political figures promote it.

The human desire to matter, to make a difference. Back then it was for a better Human Race, today it's "save the earth".
In both cases the drive to matter outweighs other considerations. How can you be wrong saving the Earth? That's what matters.

So because your decision to oppose it is purely political everyone else's reasons must also be political and all the evidence has been exaggerated and fabricated as a part of a left-wing plot? How'd they get everyone to be so unanimous from so many countries where neither Democrats nor Republicans exist?

My opposition to the AGW movement is grounded in science, backed by an understanding of human history and behavior and common sense.

I didn't know you were a scientist doing research. What profound experience you must have to be able to tell the entire scientific community they're all liberal shills. You're a true fighter who puts science over politics.

It's hard to face history and see the ghosts of failure staring back at you in the mirror. It's better to look away and pretend you're not wrong. That's human nature. It's human nature to believe you're on the "right side of history" and "Making a difference" despite the reality. That's how the USSR was born, how atrocities in numerous nations through history have happened. because it's easier to believe "No, I can't be wrong" than it is to accept the truth.

A trace gas with less than 0.10% concentration of the Earth's Atmosphere is NOT causing any climatic changes. Mild if any effects are observable. There is SO much that happens to affect the temperature that it is irrational to believe CO2 is a direct culprit. However, political movements are built on the irrational.

How many scientists do you see speaking to the public in an alarming way?

Maybe six?

Don't you see as many scientists with an opposing view?

Politics on both sides put money into the hands of scientists that are more than happy to eat every day.

Publish or die...

Since it is effectively income for them, they will write papers to suit what they are paid to write.

Government agencies spend more than 100 times the amount for AGW agenda type papers than they do for more rational papers.

Political science has a new meaning!

Just a guess, he has political ambitions or he is selling a book. It's when they make noise.

Why do alarmists insist on parroting this bull**** line? :bs

Are YOU a scientist doing research? No? Didn't think so.

Can you separate the ones are from the ones that are not politically motivated?
