Second hottest May on record

NOAA's Climate at a Glance shows an interesting result for May.
Makes you kind of wonder about the validity of the 2nd Hottest claim:

Fake news

Oh, I have little doubt that it is the hottest May on record. When you figure the adjustments made to the actual record and how land use changes raises the nearby station measurements...

Was the coldest May where I live. April was about average.

That's usually the case. When it is hotter in some places, it is generally colder in others. In the end, all near balance. At least if you measure 5 km or more away from any built up areas.

It might surprise you that that ball has actually been burning cooler for decades now.

Again I am NO expert, but are we sure. With all our technology I find it very hard to believe we can get an actual reading. I'm not even going to look but I'll bet if I Google that there would be articles with 1/2 saying the sun is warming and the other 1/2 saying it's cooling because there's no way to get an accurate measurement.

IDK. Just my opinion that it's probably both us and nature.

Makes me kind of wonder why you think the US is the entire world. But I know stuff like that confuses you.

No it's not the entire world, but the United States has very good weather records
that go back for well over 100 years. The rest of the world mostly doesn't to the
point that the climate "scientists" can adjust their models to poop out just about any
temperature they want for the 1930s. And we all know what sorts of temperature
curves they want to have their models produce.

Looks like the data is in, and May was the second hottest on record, exceeded only by 2016.

HotWhopper: Second hottest May on record

I guess i can add that April was also the second hottest April on record.

Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet: April 2017 was second-warmest April on record

Oh. And March.. also the second hottest.

That followed February, also the... well.. you get the picture.

Of course, since its only the runner up, that must mean the earth is cooling! Amirite, deniers?

Yes, we are in the middle of a warming trend that has been going on for perhaps 300 years, and so recent months tend to be warmer.

The question remains what is causing that and what, if anything, we can do about it that is feasible and effective.

.... while satisfying Wall Street and the "job creator" class.

This discussion is about global temperatures.

Maybe the local weather posts have confused you.

Those who understand the science realize that temperature will lag CO2... and that there are annual variations in temperatures which can still result in long-term upward trends.

...which is why we look at long-term trends, which indicate increasing temperatures.

The temperatures may lag CO2 all they wish, the CO2 levels have been climbing steady for over 60 years.

There isn't a nice site like NOAA's Climate at a Glance for global temperatures.
There isn't one most likely because the data isn't there in the detail that exists
for the United States. What passes for data that says that May is the hottest
ever is probably the result of computer modeling for most of the world outside
of the U.S. Here's a one minute You Tube that illustrates the point:

We are told:

A red dot represents a station reporting incomplete data for the year shown.
As a result, climate scientists had to estimate the station's annual temperature
for that year.
And we know the bias climate "scientists" have. Besides that, if you watched the video
you've no doubt noticed that at the end of the video most of the land area other than the
United States has no dots. So how do your so-called climate "Scientists" know that May
Maximum temperatures increased over the decades when the U.S. stations says they
didn't?

I think I'll go with them over you, Mr Denier.

Temperature
[h=1]Why "Climate Science" Snubs Climatic Temperature[/h]Guest essay by Leo Goldstein When something pretending to be a science cannot adequately define a quantity for its central subject, this something is inarguably a pseudo-science. This is certainly the case in the self-professed “climate science.” It proposes the hypothesis of a dangerously warming climate, but does it define a meaningful climatic temperature that…

Right- because 2016 was the warmest year ever recorded by far.

And I predict 2017 will be the NEW hottest year EVER... until 2018, after that it will be 2019, and then 2020... every year will always be the next hotterest year. ALWAYS, FOREVER.. hot. Hotter and hotterest.

Wrong again.

Doesn't it ever get tiring for you?

2017 will almost certainly not be as warm as 2016.

12:45 and its 109, going to hit 117 today....

Tomorrow is going to be worse

Actually, if the sun remains on it's predicted path of cooling, we should see cooler temperatures in some later year. How long the lag time will be is hard for me to speculate though.

Whoop-te-do...

I had 121 one summer when I lived in The Dalles Oregon.

It's also only around 2% of the Earth's surface.

So in the same way that it is not surprising that Texas can have a heat wave while Vermont is having a slightly cool summer, May temperatures for all the US can be lower while global temperatures are hotter.

...or, not. Measurements these days are made with a combination of atmospheric (satellites/balloons), oceanic and terrestrial sources, that all have to meet international standards.

But thanks for the completely baseless accusations of misconduct.

Or, there may not be a viable correlation between global temperatures and solar cycles for about a century now.

I'm sure one of us can find a more detailed explanation / paper on how global temperatures aren't being affected strongly by the solar cycle.
