Re: Majorities of Americans in Every State Support Participation in the Paris Agreeme

A majority of Americans supported going into Iraq too. Once upon a time a majority of Americans opposed the Brown v Board decision.

What's right is right and what's wrong is wrong. The Paris Accord is stupid and just like the unnecessary war in Iraq, the more people know about it, the more it stinks.

Re: Majorities of Americans in Every State Support Participation in the Paris Agreeme

I suspect that may be because it feels good, and they have not seen the price tag yet.

Yep. There's always that "do it for the children/veterans/seniors/future" feel good nonsense. It's always rainbows and unicorns until people see what something actually costs.

Re: Majorities of Americans in Every State Support Participation in the Paris Agreeme

Why should we support this?

China and India Will Continue to Increase Oil and Coal Consumption, Paris Agreement Notwithstanding - IER

It isn't going to do anything when the 2 nations with the largest population will continue to be the biggest polluters. Want to solve the problem? Make green energy cost effective so these people actually use it.

China has 4 times more people than the USA does. Are we suppose to subsidize them with our tax dollars?

If not, what is your solution? Just how do we make green energy cost effective?

In my experience the majority of Americans believe what their government tells them to. Things like Vietnam, Watergate and more recently Iraq haven't really changed that sadly

Invest. Actually research and FIND cost effective methods. It doesn't have to be done by the government. Private industry. My response is mainly aimed at the "green" movement. Which has mainly been the "redistribution of pollution" movement. These nations will NOT stop using the cheap and cost effective methods of production until it is no longer cost effective. That won't happen till other methods are found. That's just realism.

I mean the only other option in these nations is to reduce their population by a BILLION.

That's funny coming from someone in the U.K.

How so ? I've lived in the US have you ever lived in the UK .... or indeed visited any foreign country ?

No doubt, China can improve their impact on the planet, as can the US. The US has 3x the per capita CO2 emissions as China. That's why there is this accord. Climate Change is a global problem that requires a global solution.

In other words, you have an idealist dream and think Utopia exists.

You missed my point.

What happens when China has the same CO2 emissions per capita? Any subsidies we help with become unmanageable due to the number of users being subsidized.

From a budgetary standpoint, the excess paid by more developed nations is relatively low. $2-3 Billion sounds like a lot. But when the US spends $6 Trillion on the Iraqi war, it's a drop in the proverbial bucket. Not only that, but the Paris Accord is a way to unite the world, not divide it, like wars. The camaraderie and unity in mission towards a common goal can be the battle - instead of wars! Climate change is a common enemy to all nations.

Luckily treaties are not ratified by majority vote of the people. Hurray for the Constitution.

LOL...

I wish such ideals were actually true.

Rogue...

I ask again:

Please show me in your links source material where it supports their contention.

I did not find it.

I don't think it's funny at all. So were you behind the Iraqi War? I demonstrated on the streets, against it. If more of us, worldwide, took that approach, we would tell the Bush/Cheney warmongers (and so far, I don't put Trump in that category), that we want alternative actions.

Actually, you should do your research concerning China. They installed more than twice the wind energy as the US in recent years, and that's a lot, considering the US has gone from less that 1% to 7% of electrical power from wind. This US number will be at 10% by 2020.

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/02/13/chin...-installations-says-global-energy-report.html

China installed 23.4 GW of new capacity, a 42.7 percent share of the market. A distant second to China in terms of new capacity was the U.S., where 8.2 GW was installed.

Another article that I read mentioned that China could handle all new additional load with these wind power installations.

I guess it depends of what you claim "paranormal" is.

Myself, I have no doubt that we are spiritual beings. I have no claim to any particular religion, I simply know, without doubt, that we are spiritual beings.

That said, this doesn't surprise me as most people, religious or not, have has a spiritual experience.

I'm not spiritual in the least, but I respect those who are.

Roger Pielke Jr has now moved on from the climate debate into sports policy, but he still issues occasional bulletins of climate stories that are well worth reading. The latest, Pielke on Climate #6, discusses emissions intensity, hurricanes, and ocean heat content, but starts off with a remarkable fact from a recent public opinion survey. …
