It bothers me that the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world has people in charge with limited ideas or notions.
 
Not a whole there to start a discussion but we, like most nations, pick leaders based, not on their intelligence or capabilities, but on how they make us feel, even if they are lying through their teeth. Stupid really........

Should we consider this a flaw?
It occurs to me we might all be better off if we voted only in accordance with our views, which can be matched up with the closest stance of people in the running. Personalities of the individual running should be left out of it.

It bothers me that the United States and the world for that matter have, for several decades,
been making policy decisions based on obvious propaganda and dodgy science. It's way past
time to put an end to the nonsense.

People vote for those who tell them what they want to hear and who can package the message attractively enough. Trump is a perfect example. He packaged his message, such that it is, to appeal to disaffected white guys. And they largely bought it without any critical analysis whatsoever.

I think education is a big part of the solution so despite my libertarian leanings I'm a strong proponent of government funded education for those who can't afford it simply because without an informed, intelligent citizenry a democratic society cannot survive.
 
Perhaps you should utilize other terms beyond 'shoddy' with which to describe our problem.

I believe our citizens require need a better education, so I agree with you. A free country is only beneficial should its citizens be bright enough to use it wisely.

When we're discussing freedom, are we talking about the 'freedom' to treat another poorly? The freedom to rob another of their livelihood? To pack up and stop paying our workers because we've found a way to avoid it? Speak not of what you do not understand.

I understand entirely. You believe it's possible to control humans through government direction. Which is, in the end, the great truth of socialism. Freedom, and socialism are two pea's that never share a pod.

Care to actually demonstrate your opinion has any truth to it. A bit more effort than just a snippet. this could be a very lengthy conversation if you stick to just a few words at a time. I have a good idea where this is leading but you need to say it rather than me presume it.
