At private colleges that do not receive government funding for instructional purposes, they should be allowed to accept student on what ever non discriminatory way they desire. If that means taking a person with an IQ of 90, because their parents made a "donation" of $300 000 so be it.

I would limit standards to government funded schools, but not private schools. Now by government funded, I mean direct funding not scholarship.

That doesn't mean that if a private school does something that misrepresents how the procedure is done, they shouldn't be held accountable. That would be fraud. But they shouldn't necessarily be required to have the same standards as schools that recieve government funds.

If I end up with half a million dollars in federally guaranteed student loans for my attendance at a private university was I government funded or not?

You are but the school isn't. That money goes with you, whether you choose a private school or a government funded one. And especially since it is a loan vs a scholarship. A loan is your money that someone else is front all at once and then you pay them back over time.
