We are always saying thanks to our cops, firefighters and military personnel but never to our teachers. Don't forget, without good teachers some of our good people would be in prisons. Pass it on.

Teachers deserve thanks too.

I lasted in the military for 20 years. But it is inconceivable to me that I could last more than a few days as a teacher. That job seems way too tough and demanding for me. But as a parent of two school-age boys, teachers have my utmost appreciation.

A good paycheck sure would help a lot.
And of course, our thanks.

In Maryland, the Montgomery County Public Schools was perhaps the most advanced public school systems in the nation back in the 60's and 70's when I was a student. Seems like they've managed to maintain that position for the most part today.

@rhinefire

I disagree. Firstly, I do not think military, firefighters, emt, etc. get nearly enough recognition/credit for what they do--a lot of that has to do with the modern feminism and "radical" left-wing dominance in the "culture-wars". Second, the modern k-12 school system is really nothing to be proud of. Standards have gotten pathetically poor--in both k-12 and college.

I wish teachers turned in better work.

Hey, YOU get it!

And even though they turn in bad work WAY THE **** too often they are always bitching about their compensation and how even though we spend gobs of money on the brain molding system nee education system they are not supported by the society. They even want parents to be hyper involved in high school....that is just ignorant.

We need better teachers.

This thread is thank you to our educators. Your rant belongs in another thread.

@yankintx

If you think teachers are educating the young, then you are simply extremely ignorant of every given discipline. Talk to experts in any field--nobody will tell you that k-12 "education" makes any remote kind of sense.

Edit: Comparing teachers to Firefighters is just unreal

I think the education system, and the way it is set up in many cities and towns throughout the USA puts severe limitations on a teacher's creativity and there are plenty of studies out their to back me up on this issue.

Teaching to the test is never the way to go.

I say, let the teachers use their own creativity along with their ability to inspire students...……. and let's see how things shake out.

For me personally, there is a special place in heaven for teachers that inspire kids

Yes, a good teacher is a true blessing to society. A orchid to them all.

Sadly, many teachers never get a chance to teach.

In some public schools, they spend all their energy trying to maintain order and trying to make sure that they are not personally assaulted.

So they quit or just mark time until retirement.

And don't forget: Many parents will take their brats' word over that of the teacher; administrators are constrained by orders from superiors who have to satisfy politicians (who do not know anything about the realities of teaching in some public schools).

An excellent sentiment!
