Somebody always has to be an ass. An hour after the announcement was made of Barbara Bush's passing, a Fresno State prof just had to bash her on Twitter, calling her a racist who reared a war criminal and expressing delight at her death and the hope that the rest of her family would soon follow her. When folks protested, she gloated that she would never be fired because she has tenure. Fresno State may disagree. Here is its president's statement:

On behalf of Fresno State, I extend my deepest condolences tothe Bush family on the loss of our former First Lady, Barbara Bush. We sharethe deep concerns expressed by others over the personal comments made today byProfessor Randa Jarrar, a professor in the English Department at Fresno State. Her statements were made as a private citizen, not as a representative ofFresno State. Professor Jarrar's expressed personal views and commentary areobviously contrary to the core values of our University, which include respectand empathy for individuals with divergent points of view, and a sincerecommitment to mutual understanding and progress. Fresno State Responds After Professor Calls Barbara Bush 'Amazing Racist,' Says 'I Will Never Be Fired'

I think tenure will save her in this case. It's hard to fire tenured faculty, and despite the fact that this lady is a huge ass, I don't think a professor can be fired for that. They have to really do something bad to get fired.

Bolded mine.

Sounds cut and dried to me.

I lean toward agreeing with you, particularly since she's been on leave all semester. But it really all depends on what's written in her contract. The dreaded wiggle phrase is "...and other duties as assigned." I doubt that Fresno State would do it, but Jarrar really could be assigned to a maintenance crew.

Although I find her comments disgusting, I doubt she will be fired as a tenured professor.

Perhaps Twitter will suspend/terminate her account.

What happened to a persons right to freedom of speech?

Fresno State, investigating professor's Barbara Bush tweet, says tenure doesn't protect her

News conference: Fresno State professor calls Barbara Bush "racist" | The Fresno Bee

Fresno State is investigating Tuesday's incident in which an English professor tweeted that former first lady Barbara Bush was an "amazing racist." The university's provost disagreed with the professor's contention she can't be fired because of tenure.

No one stopped her from saying what she did. But when you say something so over the pale there
could be repercussions. Let hope there are.

Last night she posted her phone number on Twitter...but it was the number of a crisis hotline. Healthcare professionals are not amused.

A real class act..... I think she has bitten off more then she will be able to handle. Screwing with the internet has a way to come back on you! :doh

Have to wonder if anyone who truly need to speak to them could not get through because of what she did?

Academic credentials do not a decent person make.

Tenure might save her...but Jenny Craig failed like a sonuvabitch.

What a hateful person. Even if she doesn't get fired, at least her reputation will be ruined.

Although I find her comments disgusting, I doubt she will be fired as a tenured professor.

Perhaps Twitter will suspend/terminate her account.

Naw, if her comments had been directed against any other person, lets say a black Muslim or gay person, there would be uproar. As it is, insulting a distinguished white family is fair game.
Look at the uproar at Starbucks. Some pee on got the boot for asking non customers to leave the store, it turned into a national outrage.
As for the prof, like I said, people have been fired for much less. Makes me wonder if the woman would run her foul mouth if she'd have to worry about her job like most of us. Either way, the Bush family is know for their grace. The so called prof will have to live in the world she created for herself. I don't envy her, and I pity her students and family.

You sure? She might be living in a hell by her own making, or may be someone wronged her terrible. I wish her well and will say a few prayers for her. People like that usually have a sad existence. Pity.

Tenure, I would say it probably will save her. There are probably a lot of the faculty there that agree with the professor. Now this caught my attention: "are obviously contrary to the core values of our University, which include respect and empathy for individuals with divergent points of view."

I wonder if Fresno State had free Trump zones or would allow Condi Rice or some other conservative to come on campus and speak there.

They should dare them with Ann Coulter. I mean, individuals with divergent points of view and all are welcome. Right?

Saying a prayer for her is fine but there are consequences for actions you take.
Because you had a rough life does not give you a pass for acting like a decent person.

In today's university and college atmosphere, I highly doubt it.

BTW, that is not the correct phone #. She tweeted a different one, who knows why? I doubt she'd answer, but I woudn't doubt for a minute that she'd record some choice messages and cry foul.
