Chicago high school graduation requirement: No plan, no diploma - CNN.com

Under a controversial new requirement, starting in 2020, students hoping to graduate from a public high school in Chicago must provide evidence they, too, have a plan for the future: either acceptance to college or a gap-year program, a trade apprenticeship, military enlistment or a job offer.

Uh, what???

Any kid who has passed the academic requirements to graduate should get that diploma regardless of anything that may, or may not happen AFTER graduation.

I get the principle behind it, but the bottom line is the practice of it is pure crap.

If the kid did the work, and passed the tests, he/she should not be punished for not having a "plan".

Can anyone make any sense of this nonsense?

Absolutely stupid idea by Emmanuel. He's just going to make the difficult climb for kids on the South Side even more difficult.

Maybe my personal bias gets in the way, but I see this as an initiative to try and force people to get a job instead of, well, not.

Forcing people to do anything is wrong, and maybe the correct intentions are present, but even in that case they are going about it in a rather strange way.

Interesting statistic I would like to know in light of this, how many students in Chicago that graduate highschool go on to be employed. My guess, most....

Americans NEED to face the facts; this nation has ALREADY turned into a complete **** hole but no one is willing to admit it, because reality is too brutal for the sensibilities of the average American that continually lies to themselves about such important matters ..........
