Chicago high school graduation requirement: No plan, no diploma - CNN.com
Uh, what???
Any kid who has passed the academic requirements to graduate should get that diploma regardless of anything that may, or may not happen AFTER graduation.
I get the principle behind it, but the bottom line is the practice of it is pure crap.
If the kid did the work, and passed the tests, he/she should not be punished for not having a "plan".
Can anyone make any sense of this nonsense?
Under a controversial new requirement, starting in 2020, students hoping to graduate from a public high school in Chicago must provide evidence they, too, have a plan for the future: either acceptance to college or a gap-year program, a trade apprenticeship, military enlistment or a job offer.
